A review must be like a skirt. Short enough to keep us interested, but long enough to cover the basics.

Unfortunately I won't have any attention span to red any reviews now that they will remind me of short skirts.

My shortest review ever was my last, GY!BE's F#@#.... My longest review was DT's review, 3990 words... I'll keep my promise, even though I hope language doesn't get in my way...

This thread inspired me to write shorter reviews, like I'm doing lately (in some albums)

Is there anything about the review being good?
I'll write a 10,000 word one. It'll probably suck and be on an album thats not remotely worth it, but it WILL be the longest...

InPraiseOfFolly has told me that he is going to shorten his famous/infamous Tago Mago review to 3 or 4 thousand words, thus relinquishing its position as longest review.

Wow....I was just in the Silly Story thread and posted something, and somehow my reply got teleported to this thread.

Scared to tell you that I already have a 4000 words review for a Tangerine Dream simple EP. And counting, of course...

There's no need to go far over 600 words, and not much need to go into detail about each specific song, methinks. A 400-500 word review is usually the best.

I honestly have never managed to read that Tago Mago review in full. Obviously, a lot of thought has gone into it and I respect that, but it's a bit too daunting, IMHO (it just seems to get longer and longer every time I look at it!). I personally don't think it's a terribly good idea to write thousands of words for reviews and I speak as someone with experience in these matters!!
Most of my earlier reviews tended to average just under the 1000-word mark and I found I was getting laborously over-descriptive and formulaic. I feel SO much more comfortable with the way I write now I(no more track-by-track reviews or describing every note that the listener can hear anyway!) where most of my reviews are around 500-600 words and sometimes below that.

Wasn't there a list of albums that haven't been reviewed yet? Someone could write the longest ever review for one of them.
This made me think of the Simpsons episode where Homer was a food critic. "Screw Flanders!"

Yeah, hilarious episode
The fun thing was that the letter "E" didn't work on the typewriter, but he still managed to write "ScrEw FlandErs"

Status update on my ridiculously long Rush review: This is taking longer than I anticipated. I am only up to 3000 words so far, so it won't be ready by Monday after all. But never fear! It WILL get done.

Don't spoil it for me.
Also: all reviews I'm writing from now on must reach a bare minimum of 300 words, and much preferably 400 at the least. Also, I intend to write at least one ridiculously long review...perhaps not 7000 words, but up there.
