Topic: 1970... Posted: January 28 2006 at 09:10 |
Almost all of these albums are pure genius... yet, I don't know how an album like "Trespass" (in which GENESIS were still trying to find themselves as performers and writers, although they were already capable of creating real musical greatness), that is so flawed in many ways, can gain more votes than ELP's debut (they were born as a mature band), KC's sophomore (going to more places than their seminal debut "In the Court"), GG's debut (a bit immature, but already quite versatile and cohesive) and VDGG's sophomore (the beginning of a stunning world apart in the realms of prog). All these albums comprise excellent musicans that were already at their prime or were about to be, but "Trespass" shows much shyness in most of Phillips' guitar parts, and definitely, not the best of rhythm sections.
Anyway, this is a poll, not some individual forum member's statement, so I gladly comply to the rules of democracy.
I appreciate your attention. Regards.

In the wake of poseidon and The Yes album are both better than Trespass. The Benefit remaster is also better because it includes classics like Teacher, Witches promise and Just trying to be ;)

Actually, Trespass and Atom Heart Mother are 1971. You also left out A Question of Balance by The Moody Blues, which I think I would rate higher than all of them.
However, of the remaining albums, Time and a Word is my favorite, even though GG's debut is a sentimental fave.
Peace.

I voted GG's debut, though Trespass and Benefit are great as well.

Trespass is the only album I play regularly from that group. I haven't heard the GG album, but have heard or own all the others. Benefit and Atom Heart Mother are OK. The rest are pretty forgettable, really.

Given these choices Gentle Giant`s debut gets my vote with Time and a
Word running a close second. Other favourites include Lucifer`s Friend
debut as well as Guru Guru UFO.
