I went for 3, although it's a close call between 3, Moving Waves and the Concerto. I just think Jan Akkermann's guitar playing was at a peak on 3 - I remember wasting large chunks of o level revision time trying to master 'Sylvia' on my guitar. Talk about punching above your weight!

Another vote for Focus 3, especially for the title 'song' and Sylvia.

To those that cares; Focus played in Rio about 2 years ago and I wrote a review for Dutch Progressive Rock Page (DPRP) http://www.dprp.net/concrev/focus.htm . That show was apotheotic in all senses, 3 "encores" and about a 3 hours long show. Unforgettable. Lunar |

No body seems to be too impressed with 'Mother focus'....This albums reminds me of the style change adopted by Soft machine with there 'softs' album...very american fusion styled...
Ship of memories' even though released after 'Mother' was suppose to be left overs of the 'Hamburger concherto' session..Love the first track ''P'S March' |

Easily the Concerto but 3 is also excellent. I find Moving Waves boring (except for HOCUS BOGUS You might have included the Live At the Rainbow...... Edited by Sean Trane |

Moving Waves has Hocus Pocus, their only song I've ever really cared for. So it has my vote.

This time I agree, with you, Hamburger Concerto is a masterpiece, without any doubt is their most serious work. But still my favorite track is The House of the King the most famous Focus track even when most people believe it's by Jethro Tull. Iván |

Focus is by all means one of my top favorite bands. My vote goes for Hamburger Concerto. This album was one of those "Instant Seduction" projects where the music gets you from the first 3 chords. Thjiis van Leer incorporated more keyboards to the overall soundscape, allthough a bit unnecessary since his talent and craftmanship with his legendary Hammond B-3 yet unsurpassed. The pure classical compositions and variations on the classical harmony is brilliantly executed by all members of the band. Burt Reiters bass lines are powerfull and present overall the record. Colin Allen's drumming, besides his debut on Focus makes this album even more interesting. Jan Akkerman plays guitars and flutes and takes immense advantage of the perfect keyboard soundscapes created by van Leer. Hamburger Concerto is a MUST HAVE album for those that really love "Old School" Progressive Rock.... The reason I choose Hamburger Concerto over Focus 3 is based on the fact that I prefer the classical element on HC. Focus 3 is a project with more free style improvisation and has a jazzy touch to it. The beautiful long compositions Answers Questions, Questions Answers and Anonymous Two are masterpieces. My review on Hamburger Concerto; FOCUS Hamburger Concerto ![]() ________ Lunar |
