Hey, thanks for the review. Very happy I checked them out. I have Waters, Subkraut and Droga (and the bonus CD Liventures, etc). Really I think all three albums are very much the same level - all killer no filler - and Droga isn't any weaker than Subkraut. Just been feeling really Krauty recently! But would definitely get Droga when you can, no way you would regret it. It's a bit more "proggy", but really in a good way. I'm trying not to buy vinyl at the moment as my record deck is broken and I don't know when I can fix it Edited by Mascodagama - December 29 2014 at 16:38 |

^Nice one
I got Subkraut on some delicious blue vinyl but haven't yet digitized it, which means that I have to be in the vicinity of my stereo to play it. The past year I've been all over the place resulting in almost no plays at all. I do remember digging what I heard though. Damn...now I wish I was in my apartment - not sitting in my folks house with a cat on my knees Have you picked up their latest Droga? For some reason it just keeps eluding me. The one track I've heard from it was absolutely killer.

I will add to those who favour Vespero. For me they recently went from 'not aware of their existence' to 'one of my favourite bands currently working' in the space of a few weeks. I believe it was Guldbamsen's review of By The Waters of Tomorrow that got me interested to listen to some tracks, resulting in a plump package of CDs from RAIG arriving not too much later
Subkraut: U-Boats Willkommen Hier is my current favourite of theirs.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Rada & Ternovnik. They were added to Prog Folk a couple years ago.

I know, as I saw his thread during one of my lurking sessions on PE. I will recommend that album for one of January's editions of Something for the Weekend! |

Lev, the main guy in Uphill Work, is a semi-regular on PE and a lovely chap, he turned me onto Vezhlivy Otkaz.

^Arsenal was first ever Russian real jazz-rock band in 70-s. In 1985-86 they first turn to what they named break-dance ( urban dance rhythms) in their music, and then just became competent contemporary jazz/pop-jazz band. Last years ( and with different line-up their founder/leader trying to return back in a jazz/jazz fusion. Mainproblem is there are not too many recordings possible from their progressive period (really - from 70-s).

To me Arsenal is one of most biggest Russian Jazz Fusion Band ever. Absolutely great with a great space sax music that we love first time we listen.
Why this band isn't in page of Progarchives?
I see the 30 maniversary DVD and it's amazing, beautiful, great and a masterpiece. Enjoy because it's a great music moment ever

If you are fond of jazz-rock and fusion, you should listen to Roman Miroshnichenko, Russian virtuoso guitarist and Al Di Meola's good friend
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZjJIVXfuEg - here you can wathch Roman jamming with Meola I haven't heard about russian prog (what a shame considering that I'm from Russia, i know, I know...), but jazz and fusion scene in Russia is pretty interesting and has its own really old traditions |
