I think it's played with a capo on the second fret. Windowpane is a great song but it reminds me of Rush (they used the chord on The Fountain of Lamneth). |
Ya they do use a Capo on that song, 2nd fret, but it's still the same basic idea. The same chord structure is also used in the beginning of The Drapery Falls (just with C as the root), and I'm sure a bunch of other songs too. Back on topic, I also enjoy any chord with the augmented 4th in it ...Ok maybe I don't, but it can be used well. I like a lot of chords used by modern composers, although I don't normally understand what they are. Odd chords sound good.

You people with your complicated jazz chords! Give me a good old fashioned F# minor triad any day!
Music school has been trying to drum these five and six note chords into me, but I try to resist, although I find the major 9/7 chord quite charming.

I love the simple yet sadly beautiful Em add9. It's a very common chord for bands like Opeth cause of the 2nd and minor 3rd being rite next to each other. I love how it's used in the song "Windowpane" by Opeth.
for those who wanna see what Im talking about: -0- first string -0- -0- -4- -2- -0- sixth string
quite a lovely chord for those of us who like prog metal and acoustic guitars

I love jazzy chords, I'm all about minor 7ths they are so versatile and sound so good if used right, dominant 9ths and minor 6ths too, just any of those jazz chords that you bar off with your 3rd finger on a guitar,

BTW: What tuning and/or instrument is that? On a 6 string guitar in standard tuning Em79 would look like this: -2- -3- -0- -4- -2- -0-

It seems that every country/region, musical style and instrument utilise their own chord naming. What a mess!Anyway, in my book, your (indeed) lovely chord is C#m9 - regardless of position of d#.

C#m add 9? I love that chord! It's awesome!!
Also, Em6 is a lovely chord.
