I tried Santana- Abraxas and really enjoyed it. Is that considered Jazz/Rock?
1 Chronicles 13:7-9

Then David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets.

Ičve been listening to a lot of my old fusion lately and happened on a little known album I've had since the late seventies by Reggie Lucas who is also known as a producer. He produced Madonna's debutDead.

Anyway the name of the album is Survival Themes and features some good fision solo guitar freakouts as well as some more laid back grooving jazz rock. If I remember correctly I picked up the album because he also had played on some Miles Davis albums in the seventies but I can't seem to find them. I might be wrong. Anyone?

return to forever is absolutely stunning. So is mahavishnu orchestra. After hearing al di meola on romantic warrior, my guitar playing tendencies have become jazzier and jazzier...faster and faster...better and better. Listening to jazzrock fusion will work wonders for any musician! It opens you up to new sounds and ideas.
for those about to prog, we salute you.

My prog pusher (Alan Freeman of Ultima Thule) has introduced my to 4 or 5 Italian bands, that have been influenced by Soft Machine (at various periods of Machine's career), to a greater or lesser extent.

I have to say as somebody who has been into jazz rock since 1968/9, I do find it surprising that you younger guys seem to have only  mainstream 70's jazz rock albums in your collection, and very little beyond the 80's. The genre didn't stopped in around 1983, it has distinctly moved on and innovation is very much to be heard in 2007 bands and their album releases.  If nothing else check out the bands that developed out the 70's big name bands. BTW my surprise is tempered by appreciating that jazz rock fusion has been ghettoised/forced underground and released by  small indie labels (if at all), and therefore lacking publicity and/or radio play, and no display in record stores. However, there are plenty of websites providing excellent info (e.g. Fusenet) as well as threads here at PA.
The best eclectic music on the Web,8-11pm BST/GMT THURS.

Well, I'm going on with my approach to jazz rock. Some of the albums I found are really stunning at the first listenings.

P.S. I still haven't found Bruford's One of a Kind...

I confirm these words!!!
Andrea Cortese had astonished me with this purchase...  But I should say that it had done really well to gain a such masterpiece!!!

Well done Andrea.Clap
Spectrum is amazing album. Tommy Bolin's guitar is impressive.
If you like this one try also Cobham's "Crosswinds".

Passport and their album "Looking thru" was actually my introduction to jazz/rock especially after their concert in Zagreb 1974.

Thanks, pero! I will also check it out!

This summer I will be in Histria for the secon time (a small village near Porec will be my home...). I'm curious to find some good Croatian prog...is there any good contemporary bands from croatia or some classic ones from the Yugoslavian 70s I should look for?

I will be in Ćervar the whole summer (apartment place 6 km from Poreč on the road to Novigrad). We could drink some beer this summer on Motovun film festivalWink

I can recomend you only "Time" (croatian band from 70') and "Leb i sol" (Macedonian band) and "Buldožer" (Slovenians).

Great!! I will be in Porec from 6th august to 16th. We surely can meet!!Tongue

Im looking forward to meet you. You can bring some Italian Prog  (I dont have any Embarrassed), and I will bring my jazz/rock CD's Wink

I will certainly brought you copies of a pair of italian prog albums, at least. What do you prefer. The most famous bands or the most obscurest?
