I love, nay I WORSHIP all things ULVER!  I have all of their discs, and I even have a limited edition tshirt with alternate SOTS art, a limited numbered/signed poster with shadows of the sun alternate art (which is now framed in my apt.).....I was unwilling to spring for the flask however.

I also wrote a review for Shadows Of The Sun on this site.....
http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=153081

I also love all of their output from their black metal beginnings to the glitch, experimental, and the drone, and everything in between.  I think they owe a substantial part of their career and explorations to the maverick experimental band COIL.....but they do not necessarily rip them off.  Coil is another great band to investigate in the electronica/ambient/experimental arena of dark music.  Love Coil also.

either way, Ulver is unique enough that they have found their own voice, and it is fronted by the wonderful and angelic Garm......

Yay a bump for a band I really need to listen to soon...

I go through seasonal music phases, and Ulver is definitely my winter band...so they're not getting a lot of love right now...

I need to give them some soon. This thread reminded me.

"We now look much forward to locking ourselves up in the studio and not having to worry about anything else. A new opus magnum/minimum. Please be patient."

From Ulvers Myspace.

If this werent one of the greatest bands on the planet, I would post this, but it's Ulver, and they need some recognition, and this thread needs to be bumped anyways!

havnt heard the tribute but ULVER is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. i absolutley LOVE perdition city and Shadows of the Sun (still havent listened to Blood Inside through yet but i like it a lot so far) and while their black metal albums aren't up to par with the rest of their work, it is certainly good and interesting take on the genre.

Has anyone heard My Own Wolf?  It's a free Ulver tribute album.  You can download it here: http://panacea.msk.su/ulver/1/download.html

Interesting takes on Ulver's work.

I suppose there's definitely more than two 'fans' of Ulver onboard Wink

I really like Marriage of Heaven and Hell and Blood Inside myself

I've only recently first heard Perdition City and Shadows of the Sun, really liked the first one, but like their last one less

What?

eh, moe_blunts was kinda being rude i suppose...but not really when you think about it.

it's just that most people (including myself) consider Nattens to be fairly weak--even compared to other black metal. I certainly agree, as there are a whole plethora of albums that surpass it--including basically anything by Enslaved, Negură Bunget, Agalloch, Wolves in the Throne Room, and even Ulver's own "Bergtatt"...

But, art is subjective, so I'm glad at least someone liked it! And I don't think it's awful, just rather subpar.

But yeah, that's what the slightly inconsiderate "lol........." was all about I believe...and I sort of agree with it, because calling anything "the greatest ______________ of all time" can be rather silly, and I say this from experience.

Oftentimes I used to do things like that, and then I'd go and change my mind like a month later, and remember something I'd said, and have to explain to everyone that I've changed my mind.

This is mostly in real life situations, but hell, if you look at my post history you'll see loads of silly contradictions

I've had Blood Inside for, what, a couple of weeks now, and I love it! I went to the Rate Your Music side at first, to get an idea how the band's discography was rated, and was surprised to see BI being rated fairly low in comparison to some of their other records. The reason I say this is because the two songs I listened on YouTube were both from BI and I thought it was compelling stuff. I'm glad I got the record, after all, because each listening experience so far has revealed more things to love
I was made to love magic

It is very worth it. If you come between a choice as for which to get first, definitely go with "Blood Inside".

At least, that's my recommendation...because it's better (although not better received, so you may or may not want to take this advice to heart).

Anyway, happy listening when you get them! Blood Inside may be the single greatest album ever (maybe not, but it's up there in the oligarchy for sure!)

In my experience recommending Ulver, all of my friends seem to prefer Kveldssanger and Perdition City to Blood Inside at first, but who knows.

Blood Inside was my first and least favorite Ulver album for a while, before I became enlightened by it's awesomeness, and now it is my favorite, and by quite the long shot.

I just purchased Blood Inside. It is quite simply brilliant, as well as inspiring to me, as a keyboardist.
