Hey why not add George Michael ?

Oh yeah, nevermind. He's already in the archives. Sort of.

LOL
Fire up the flux capacitor ! We're taking this Delorean through all four dimensions.

What is the future of prog ? Genesis reunion ? I'm not telling! That could upset the thyme/space continuum.

There are some strange bands included in PA but I feel anyone would be hard pressed to make an argument for The Monkees! Never knew their claim to fame with the Moog though I must admit.

They did make some great music and although some may take the mickey (Dolenz or otherwise...) out of their musicianship, let's not forget Mike Nesmith was/is an acomplished musician.

It's a brilliant film in my opinion - and it is also a complete mess.

The two are not mutually exclusive

Anyway, they're supervised by Frank Zappa...

No, but everything I've read, or heard, suggests that it's a complete mess. An unsupervised Monkee may not always be a good thing.

The point about the moog was relevant, because it was introduced by the band members. They were striving to be more than their handlers wanted them to be. Check out "Headquarters," and "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd." (with an open mind) It may change the way you view these guys.
But they had absolutely nothing to do with prog.

Totally agree with you. They're born as Beatles clones, fight to ut their own music in their records and produce some very good albums. The thing started to ruin when Peter Tork decided to leave. But their "maturity" albums citade abice are worth- listening.
Of course they're not prog. But who cares about this? Thw world has a lot of other interesting music to offer, and The Monkees are fun and unpretentious.
Bach, Ma, Bros, Déia, Dante.

I found their album Head in one of the music stores in my city. I'm still considering going over there tomorrow and picking it up...

OOOhh stop messin' about. The Rutles demand entry with half of Patto and a fifth of the Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band on board, for the real musicians.

True! I forgot which one, but you know your facts!

The Monkees were designed to be a copy of The Beatles: it was a record company idea. (There was one who could write songs though: Mike Nesmith made some country rock albums and he really was good at it.)

I can't tell you how many nights I have spent pondering the deeper meaning within "The Last Train to Clarksville."  Is it a train of thought, of mouthwash, of turnips?  Was Mickey Dolenz really Phil Collins' alter-ego?  Or Bill Bruford's?  Only by having them crowned worthy of prog status will we ever truly get to the bottom of these and many more questions.

Yeah- go for it. If they're not prog related, I don't know what is. But I think the Partridge Family should go in first.
