Old bands: Ange (I prefer Guet Apens), Sandrose (wonderful Mellotron, female vocals and strong guitar) Nineties: Edhels-Still Deam and Versialles-Don Giovanni New bands: Nemo (dynamic blend of symphonic, progmetal, jazzrock and classic) and Maldoror (excellent band, moving vocals, great Mellotron, some Ange undertones) |

It's Noir Désir not the other way round... Sadly, their vocalist Bertrand Cantat was judged guilty of having killed his girlfriend Marie Trintignant (daughter of the famous actor Jean-Louis Trintignant) and sent to jail for 8 years... |

A group called "Desir Noir" covered 21st Century Schizoid Man during
concert. They took all the prog out and it eventually just was some guy
singing the lyrics with an accent to some distorted guitar playing
chords.
Indochine's an okay band. |

I am glad that Oliverstoned mentionned Nino Ferrer "Métronomie".I listened to this album and it's a very good one. Nino Ferrer was a pop singer who was very popular in the French speaking world during the 60's (he was very popular here in Québec). He made some very humoristic pop songs like "Les Cornichons" and "Le telefon" who are still get play on the radio here in Québec. In the early 70's, he move to Italy where the early italian prog bands began their career. The Métronomie album was influenced by italian bands like Le Orme and PFM and it contains a lot Hammond organ and mellotron. It's a very good, introspective album.Sadly,Mr. Ferrer shot himself in 1999. Another album that not quite well know but very good is the sole and self titled Terpandre album. If you like violin in the style of King Crimson with a lot of mellotron, it's an album that worth the spin. Nemo is a great choice!!
While being there, take the chance to get some A.C.T. Album (even tho they are from Sweden). I don't if you have the same problem then over here in quebec but their album are not distributed over here...witch is kind of sad...It would cost me a hell lot just to order then because of IMports... |

Nah, I'm down in London, Ontario, and I think we're going with people from St. Thomas. Too bad, it would have been nice to meet some other prog fans on the trip. |

If you talk about progressive pop:
Nino Ferrer/Metronomie (1971) features a very progressive long piece (instrumental): ![]() ...and a beautiful cover, as you can see. Edited by oliverstoned |

It may be difficult for you to find, I recommend Emmanuel Booz/le Jour Ou Les Vaches .... , Emmanuel Booz/Dans Quel Etat J'erre, Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes/Le Temps De L'autre if you like progressive rock not typical symphonic rock. William Sheller/Lux Aeterna is also excellent.

Catharsis is quite weak and overrated IMO. Clearlight is essential. Get the last remaster of this and you will understand what i mean: (The former Mantra CD version is very bad sounding and doesn't features the FANTASTIC bonus, like "Sweet absinthe", an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE) http://www.clearlight888music.com/catalog.htm#bubbles ![]() To talk about less-known records, this one is only available in vynil, but excellent: Alain Markusfeld/Le désert noir (1977) ![]() Edited by oliverstoned |
