Bowie or Sparks? Ended up voting Bowie because at his best he's truly the best.

Interesting poll, especially as many 'hard core' prog bands have had a go at pop as well.  From this list, I voted for Todd but many others would be worthy winners.

Although the correct answer for me is probably Supertramp, I've decided to give some love to the arse-end of the world and vote for Split Enz.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

A an attemnt at a (very much) cherished PPP top ten:

Kate Bush
ELO
David Bowie
The Beatles
Talk Talk
Ween
Beach Boys
Roxy Music
Peter Gabriel
Sparks

Voted ELO as I think they fit the description better than Kate

10CC for me. A brilliant and very funny art rock band who took the piss out of everyone and everything, including themselves/.
I wouldn't include BJH as pop in any way, wonderful though they were (are).

I haven't included It Bites because to me they sound rather progressive pop rock (the rock part along the line of Mr. Mister AOR). Maybe in another poll.

I agree with It Bites being progressive pop (indeed of a pop rock kind). I don't care for the band, but that is irrelevant.

I like lots of progressive pop: Stereolab is a favourite of mine, Fishmans, Bruno Pernadas, Julia Holter, Slapp Happy, Pram, Toy Matinee, Haco, Aksak Maboul... to name some not in this poll but in the top 200 at Rateyourmusic for Progressive Pop. It Bites has an album in the top 200, Once Around the World at 195. Edit, and looking again at the list, I forgot to mention Sufjan Stevens.

Supertramp although I respect 10CC a lot.

Not sure about the term 'prog pop' though as for me It Bites fitted that description better than anyone!

Todd Rundgren is the best.

Nice poll and list! Agree with some of the missing artists--and found it hard to vote against Kate or Björk but went with Supertramp.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson
