What a tough choice, both are symphonic rock masterpieces, dynamic with lots of exciting moments, I love the Hammond work in Tarkus but in the end I consider The Gates Of Delirium as a more original and adventurous composition, Moraz fueled Howe to unexplored territories!

Tarkus- even though it is mildly overrated.

How can the best ELP epic be losing vs the worst Yes epic? My own opinion of course. I absolutely love both the bands.
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Gates for sure. Tarkus seems to have at least one section that goes on too long. It's still great but I much prefer GoD.

Tarkus

I like "The Gates of Delirium". When it comes to ELP vs. YES, I'll go with ELP because of the vocals, which have been more of a factor nowadays. I don't even pay attention to lyrics anymore.

I voted Gates 2 years ago and would not change that despite being a massive Keith Emerson/ELP fan. Interesting to see that ELP is not that far behind, maybe getting some belated respect and also recognition that Tarkus is an important piece coming out in 1971 when bands were not often tackling side long epics as much and maybe Tarkus helped encourage that more after the album went to NO1 in the UK album charts. Greg Lake had his reservations but sensibly wasn't prepared to split the band up over it.

The Gates of Delirium gets my vote only because it contains "Soon."

Delirium by a short head... both premier league prog masterpieces.... Cool
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

If I remember it right that's lyrics from the song War by Frankie Goes to Hollywood ?

Actually, "War, what is it good for?" was the original title for War And Peace
