The Scheherazade album is my renaissance. In Autumn, long long time ago my friend lent me the Scheherazade album and I recorded it on c-cassette. The music was fantastic, never heard anything as beautiful in rock, especially because of the singerīs angelic voice. At the same I met a sweet girl with very long golden hair and madly fell love with her. But I lost her. I kept listening the cassette occasionally and dreamed of the girl with golden hair.
Suddenly I found her again just in the beginning of summer.
I was so lucky. It was incredible. "Burning love comes once in lifetime". Oh what it is to be young. We have 2 children.
Scheherazade and my story. Now I have all the 70īs Renaissance albums and my listening marathon will begin.

Sometimes I think of the classic 70s Renaissance era as the John Tout era. His piano was the main lead instrument, and he played beautifully with passion and grace. Note how different the band sounded in the 80s and beyond without him, and how it was never the same. A terrific loss.

This is very sad. 3 days before he passed, I was entranced by his playing on the Sight and Sound BBC concert recorded in 1977. In 1979, SPACE PIRATE RADIO had the pleasure of co-promoting Renaissance in concert in Santa Barbara at UCSB. A rare experience, with incredible performers and lovely people.

RIP John. One of my hugest influences and I don't know how much more I can take after Edgar passing. He's the man in my avatar for those who didn't know.

Very sad news indeed The music world endures another massive loss....... I love his amazing, classically infused playing. Although inevitable, losing our highly respected Prog musicians is a very sad blow to us fans. RIP, John Tout, as Steve G stated, ashes are burning the way........

R.I.P John!
His amazing piano playing and subtle keyboard flavours were a constant highlight of the group.
I have very strong feelings for Renaissance. The very first prog CD I ever bought was their `Scheherezade and other Stories' (from the long-gone Gaslight Music in the CBD, for all you Melbournians!) album, I didn't know anything about the band, just liked the cover and was curious about the long tracks listed on the back. What an amazing discovery!
I especially adore John's piano playing throughout the opening title track off `Prologue', my personal favourite Renaissance album.
Play some wonderful keyboard solos and glistening piano in heaven now, John!

Truly sad about John Tout passing away. Definitely a "keyboard great", particularly on piano but I always really enjoyed his synth work too. Listened to Scheherazade and other stories in the car today.

I'm not sure how many more of these RIP's I can take. I had the pleasure of talking to John Tout for only 1/2 of an hour of my life and immediately knew that this was a humble, almost fragile, but extremely lovely man with an easy laugh and ready smile that was absolutely natural, aside from being a gifted keyboardist that only the prog world really appreciated.

RIP.
