I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this as it was reported in the November 2013 edition of Record Collector Magazine.

Steven Wilson is presently remixing A Passion Play for stereo and for 5..1 But not only that, he is also remixing what appears to be the entire Chateau D'Isaster Tapes i.e. there is some 10 or so minutes that were excluded from the Night Cap CD and he is also taking out the1993 flute overdubs by Ian Anderson to make it sound (I suppose) authentic. Anderson at first was not going to allow it but Wilson said that the fans (including Wilson himself) would want it, so Anderson agreed and the overdubs are out.

It will be interesting if Steven Wilson includes the missing acoustic "Sailor" track that has surfaced on a number of previous bootleg recordings from the D'Isaster Tapes.

I do remember a thread coming up about it, a couple of months ago.  I'm definitely an interested customer.

I definitely would like to hear this.

It's the extras that make the Tull re-releases so fantastic. This sounds like it may be the best of the bunch.

"A Passion Play" is my favourite album of all time, and I'm very anxious to hear the Chateau D'Isaster Tapes (don't have "Nightcap"), so I will definitely be buying this!

Hi,

Maybe we should suggest Steven Wilson to go have a talk with Jimmy Page and get rid of the overdubs on the bootlegs also, and clean the rest up! That would make things way better!

I'd rather have him look into the early Krautrock releases tbh. Stuff like Electronic Meditation from TD, Ash Ra Tempel's Swingungen and HauRUK from Xhol. Now that'd be fun!
They're all releases that I have come to adore, but it would be cool to see what Steve could bring to them. He has always been into the German scene as far I know, so something like this would possibly come very naturally to him. Add to that, an album like Swingungen could very well benefit from a little brush up.

As far as this new Chateau d'isaster thing, I'm all earsBig smile
I actually don't have the original release, but adore A Passion Play, so I guess this is a fine opportunity to remedy that.

I'd love to purchase this; but the pre-sale price I'm seeing is about thirty five dollars.
Anyone have a better source than Amazon?

The presale price you were seeing is for a Japanese release of APP. It's apparently the same as the 2003 release. The remixed A Passion Play doesn't have a release date yet. It's supposed to be out sometime this year. I'm anxiously awaiting it's release.

I'd only heard rumours about this until now, so this, for me, is news of the year.
Shame about any flute overdubs being taken out. I wonder which fans SW is talking about, I'd like to have an in-depth discussion with them in a dark alley.

I don't really know those recordings, so my opinion is not very well informed. However, usually I prefer live recordings without overdubs... even though the overdubs may sound cooler, it makes it a kind of less honest recording. However it may be, I don't have "A Passion Play" yet, so I guess this will be the way to go for it.

Mine arrived 3 days ago. Have only listened to the Chateau sessions.

Steven Wilson has really done a fantastic job with this.

There is a significant amount of new content with the tracks put in the correct order as they were meant to be.

Wilson has stripped down the over produced 20 years (3 tracks) as well as the Night Cap edition and the sound is so intimate and crystal clear that you think that Tull recorded this in 2014 and not  September 1972.

Even "Skating Away..." and "Only Solitaire" from Warchild have a different feel to them. It's quite amazing how over produced the Warchild  "Skating Away..." Is compared to this original recording.

And the 1993 overdubs, particularly the flute have been completely taken out and it's so much better. It may not have pleased Anderson much as a great proportion of the instrumentals are devoid of his input, with Barre, Evan, Hammond-Hammond and Barlow doing what they did best; they had such great chemistry in their instrumentals.

I haven't listened to the new mix of APP yet but what Steven Wilson has done to the Chateau tapes is truly brilliant.

Highly recommended.
