I don't really want to be a complete tone-clone, but I'm pretty interested on how to get a tone that is sort of similar-ish to the guitar sound you get on classic albums like Octopus by Gentle Giant (more specifically, the track "A Cry for Everyone" makes me moist). There isn't a specific price limit, but I don't want to wap out more than say, £600 for an amp, although I realise to get the "perfect sound" I'd probably need to spend quite a bit more than that.

There's probably similar threads to this somewhere, maybe even pretty much the exact same, but I certainly can't find it.
