This is Genesis starting when Marillion started, who apparently sounded a lot like Genesis in their early days.  Genesis was no longer what they once were.  So Genesis at "Duke" and the beginning of Marillion.

I'll take the genuine thing, even if it is popped up a bit, over Marillion any day.

Genesis. For what they did in the '70's and early eighties.

Marillion is good too, but compared to Genesis it's Second League to me. Still, I admire their progressive attitude since Brave.

Marillion any day.

Foxtrot vs Script For a Jester's tear, really no contest, script wins
Trespass vs Fugazi, again no contest, fugazi wins
Selling England vs Misplaced, ehrm, tough contest, Selling England wins
Nursery Cryme vs Brave, tough again, but Brave wins
The Lamb vs Clutching, really no contest, the lamb bows down at the feet of Clutching at straws

Everything from Genesis after the Lamb is really no match for our winner.

marillion owns Genesis.

LATE Genesis only??

Then Marillion gets my vote, no question. I think Duke was an excellent album by Genesis, but it was the only 'excellent' album they produced in the 80's IMO. Marillion produced two excellent albums (Script & Fugazi) and few 'very good' ones (Misplaced C, & CAS)

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

This poll can't be serious. We're talking about the master vs. the apprentice.

It's true the master was eventually lured to the dark side, but so was the apprentice.

Oh, okay, LATE Genesis vs. Marillion. Sorry, I should the intro to the threads better before I start replying. I'm extremely irritating these days.

Except for the magnificent Three Sides Live Album my answer would be: Marillion. They beat Genesis after 1983. But I listen to both, even later Genesis, which has it's moments from time to time.

Addendum: If we're going to go off the author's topic and include any Genesis from 1972-         & nbsp;       1977,then it's Genesis easily.

Marillion by a mile. Only Duke and ATTWT were reasonable late Genesis albums (3 stars each), whereas Marillion scored several 4-5 star albums.

In my opinion , only "Invisible touch" and "Genesis" are worse then the BEST Marillion-album which, IMO, is "Script...". Genesis is Genesis, so I voted Genesis

I'm not a fan of either band, but I voted Genesis because they are the original - without them there wouldn't have been any Marillion. Obviously, Marillion's early output is vastly superior to anything Genesis did from the early '80s onwards, but one cannot forget the difference between the master and the apprentice, as Kirklott wonderfully put it.
