IS their bands in prog who have used the Trinidad and Tabagos instrument, the steel drum in prog (exept i think ceveral Jazz/fusion bands have used it, and my favourite band Toto have a song featuring it (Mushanga), but are their any PROG bands or RiO bands who use the steel drums, not viberophone or xylophone but steel drums
or is their any Steel drum fans here, it is my nieche instrument in the perc division i get very enthusiastic when i hear it and very emotional...
Hey Agi I canīt recall any to be honest with you, but Iīm looking forward to anybody who does, as I once played some myself, although pretty horribly... Iīm thinking maybe Cymande or Osibisia, but I canīt remember. Maybe I should have a listen.

first i did not understand how they could make melodies out of a bowl that looked like a eh bowl, and it sounds so pretty and you can hear it from miles that it is steel drums it have a unique sound. but i know synths can dublicate it, and make it "sound" like it
^Thereīs no substitute for it - believe me. Iīve attended quite a few carnivals with some real drummers punishing those things, and it sounds bloody amazing. At one point I actually stopped looking at girls in feathers and g-strings just to check out this unbelievable dude pounding away. I think, just as you pointed out, there must be some RIO or avant bands who used this highly original instrument somehow, and if not - there certainly should be! Itīs like the bagpipes of the drumming world. Nothing else sounds like it.

i have that album but i have lost interest in the solo bassplayers and have interested me more for the bass-players nobody cares for, Dougie Thomson and Dee Murray, + Mike Rutherford and John Wetton

I think Carl Palmer uses steel drums (or something similar) in 'Karn Evil 9'. Somewhere in the middle this song has steel drums and it's the best part of the song!

On the live version its actually Emerson replicating the sounds of steel drums on the synth but studio version I don't know. Would be great if it was actually steel drums
