Truly an amazing composer. So many students of composition in my generation (currently in their early 20s or so) are profoundly influenced by his work. I have a hunch that he'll be looked back on alongside other great historical composers; certainly his unbelievable sense of melody and harmonization are at least as good as any other composer I know of.
And he's a huge prog-head too =)

I'd suggest him to the site here if I didn't know that he'd probably get shot down...

The Black Mages are here, which is basically his band, so why not?

I know, and he has been quite prolific. His music has been much more progressive (I feel) than that of The Black Mages, and he has produces such a varying amount of music. What to add him to, though?

I'd say symphonic prog due to his keyboard love and orchestral backing. But I could also say jazz fusion, or prog related, or etc...

He should redo his music in the studio, and extend some of the prominent songs... This guy created video game prog, if there ever was such a thing.

I seriously LOVE the below song

He's one of my favorite composers of all time . . .

. . . but in terms of adding him, he writes orchestral soundtracks with the occasional rock or industrial bit here and there. No different than any of the great film composers, really. Should we now include Hans Zimmer and John Williams?

The Black Mages are here, and that's good enough for me.

In terms of my favorite work by him, I think FFVIII and X are my personal favorites, but VII is what most people tend to love the most (The game and the music)

A great composer indeed. I used to play a lot of pieces from his FF scores on piano years ago...  great memories Smile

Slightly off-topic, but another favourite Japanese composer of mine is Joe Hisaishi. I guess most people are most familiar with his (often great) scores for Hayao Miyazaki, but I especially love is more elegiac scores for Takeshi Kitano. Besides that, he's got one of the most instantly recognisable styles, while also covering and exploring a multitude of genres. Any other admirers here?
