I've been visiting this site for about a year now and listening to prog music for about that long, so I think I can make pretty solid comments now that I've gotten a good taste for the music.

So far the bands I like the most include The Mars Volta, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, and Frank Zappa.

I'm hoping the guys on this site are a little less insane than some of the guys on other music forums (Metallica / Megadeth fansShocked!!!)
The man who lives in my finger tells me I'm right

Yes, we are all insane here (what other thing would you expect from proggers?), but friendly nevertheless...Wink

Nice music taste! If you want it to be even better (Wink) check out Van Der Graaf Generator and Gentle GiantThumbs%20Up

I wouldn't necessarily say we're "insane" but ...

eh, who am I kidding? this place is full of a bunch of nutcases!

Good place to be though.

Since I assume you like thrash metal, given what you said, have you checked out prog-metal yet? There are some great bands in that genre, particularly Opeth (my favorite, but the vocals may take some getting-used-to), Tool, Mastodon, Pain of Salvation, Riverside ... and I could recommend more and be more specific if you're interested.
