 Topic: New Guitar for X-Mas

Well it was a combo Birthday/X-Mas gift, but anyway....
Just got back from visiting my Mom in FL (where I grew up) and she got me (out of the blue) and Ephiphone Les Paul Custom, White with Gold Hardware....OK maybe it was made in China (like my Epi Acoustic/Electric I recently bought, which I also love)...Maybe its not a full-fledged Gibson...but SO WHAT?? It is a very nice guitar...great tone, great action, feels great, looks great for about 1/3 of the cost.....I got a Crate practice amp (It was a freebee when she got the guitar) along with it...but I will mainly be using it with my Johnson Millenium amp.....It makes a nice companion to my Jackson (Another mid-line...some of us are on a budget  ) and I am still tweaking my Frankenstein "Yamacaster" (Strat Neck on a Yamaha body)....
My Wife took some pics of me playing it...maybe I can post one later.....
Anyone else get any new gear over the holidays that they wish to tell us about?

Mine was a combined birthday/Christmas present (my birthday's a week before Christmas; I have often though about having an 'official' one in mid-June instead).
Got a Freshman electroacoustic 12-string. Sub £300 (I chose it!), XLR and Jack outputs, built in tuner. Lovely guitar

i really dont associate good guitars with where they are made nor how much they are. a good musician can get a great sound out of any level of craftsmanship in musical instrument.
my acoustic/electric was just over 300, but it sounds amazing.
plus, my old epiphone gothic explorer sounded just as good as the gibson, and i played both back to back in a guitar store before i bought the epiphone.
once you get to a certain price range(usually above 1200 US), it become more about the name of the guitar than anything.

You also pay for wood quality, the more expensive a guitar is the more likely it is to have higher quality wood, which may not affect the sound but it could be the difference between a guitar lasting 10 years or 100 years. My first electric guitar was a Westfield LP copy which fell apart after a couple of years but all the guitars I've bought since have been higher quality as even with heavy use don't look like falling apart, they may not withstand regular gigging but for home use they are perfect. Interestingly I prefer my Steinberger Spirit GU Deluxe to my Epiphone G400 and the Steinberger cost £50 less, but as far as I can tell both are of equal build quality.

o no doubt, no doubt. im fully aware of differences in quality of wood for guitars, but when you reach the highest quality you can go before you start paying for "pieces of art", you really have no much need to shell out thousands of dollars for an axe. but you dont want to pay chump change for a guitar that will lose its binding within the first few years. regardless, if i bought a 3,000(US) PRS guitar, i would never take it to smoky clubs or lug it around all over the city for gigs.

I would never buy a PRS as they're very over priced, you can get Gibson/PRS quality guitars for about £700 if you're willing to order one from a smaller company.

while i do love PRS, i do agree they are horribly overpriced.
but, for 500 bucks, you cant beat that one model they have of theirs in that range.

Ah the SE range, to be honest I've tried one and didn't like it much, the sound was great but I didn't like the neck.

i agree on that.
the tone, look and everything was fine, but i agree with the neck part, and i found that it was slightly more difficult for my right hand to adjust to the setup for playing.

My problem was with my left hand, the neck on the SE I tried was very rough.

i didn't quite have that problem. my style of fretting rarely lets me rest a larg portion of my hand on the back of the neck. mainly just thumb.
but like i said, my right hand just didnt feel comfortable at all. but still good sounding guitars.

I suppose the SE2s may be better but I've not had a chance to play one and to be honest I don't want one either as my current guitars do exactly what I want them to.
