Topic: Who would support us? Posted: October 25 2006 at 12:45 |
I say that we all take it upon ourselves from now until 2009 to put together an album with our band/solo or whatever you like and support each other with sharing our music through this site. I'll be releasing the first of many solo albums in late spring 2007 and I don't necessarily want to charge people for it but making a living these days off studio albums is sort of a pipe dream, so a good way to combat that is to SUPPORT EACH OTHER! Buy everyone elses albums, we can have an amazing community of prog people on this site alone, you can spread the word, share the music and so on. This isn't a shameless plug for my solo effort in May either, I'm really trying to gather together a tour de force of people on this site who if we all have a sort of pact thingy, we can all become a kind of prog phenomenom.
My goal is for my music to eventually appear on this site. How about you?

I'd love to put together an album or two when I have the possibility.
But I'm not going to rely on music to earn me a living. My albums will
be free. I might buy other people's albums though (if I have money and
if I've heard a preview of some sort).

Yes, it could be a trade. If you made 100 albums and there were 100 other people with 100 albums each too, then everyone would get everyone elses album. It would rule.

There a ton of sights dedicated to sharing people's personal music projects, if you do not want to use MySpace then Soundclick is excellent. It would be great if there was a dedicated Prog group sight, but then who defines the boundaries which by its very nature Prog is against. If a sight opened - tons of non Prog bands & idividuals would post, and I've heared some Progressive music which was neither progressive or prog. So a Prog commune is great in theory, but in practise? I would love if the people here at Prog Archive had a place for us to post our music.
Just a Thought
Thanks Northerner

I'm totally down, I'll support anyone who makes excellent music. If it's good I will buy it. We should all help each other out in these ways. I too Gaston would love to see my music on this site. I feel it's just a dream, but hey I'm a kid, I can dream

Have you ever thought about publishing your music on websites like napster.com, emusic.com or mindawn.com? Seems relatively straight-forward for me, and you would get a little bit of money when people download the tracks. And of course your music would appear here, on my website and on many others.

sounds like a good idea. Too bad my prog vision consists of only myself, with no one else to assist me in realizing it. I guess i'm a freelance improv guitarist for now. I'd support other good bands if I weren't broke!
