Sunn O)))

Just out of curiosity I started this poll ...

This poll indirectly shows whether a band generally categorized as "Drone" can be prog. Personally I really like Sunn O))), but I think that the Drone style, although it is related to Post Rock/Metal, is not sophisticated enough to be called "Progressive". But I do think that some Drone bands may be accepted as prog, and Sunn O))) may be one of them. I need to listen to them some more, I downloaded one of their albums only yesterday and listened to it one time.

I agree - in my book they're progressive, but in order to maintain consistency I also think that there needs to be a clear division between "simple" drone bands and "complex" post rock bands.

The question is: What separates Post Rock from Drone? It's not necessarily more complex. If an artist chooses a minimalistic approach, with very reduced instrumentation - it can also be art, just like there are some painters who draw a single black dot on a canvas and call it art.
