I was listening to " Lips Of Ashes " tonight... this may sound like a silly question, but the airy, intangible sound that floats over top of the acoustic in the beginning, what is that? Is that keys with a very strange additional effect? I've started facilitating the production of my own albums recently acquiring Pro Tools 7 ( which, mind you, before this version did not focus as much on composition as it did recording ) .. anddddd...

For the fool ( with a very meager understanding of musical proficiency ) who stated PT is crap, I can only imagine what currently resides inside his cd player.

Yeah, I think you're right. It sounds like a heavily modulated keyboard patch to me, but what do I know? Ooh, as I listen to it, it may actually be guitar with heavy effects. Sigh, sorry, I'm no help at all.

Yeah, I think it's just an overlaid effect in the background. My guess would be keys, but like Nipsey, I'm not much help, I'm a bassist ;)

Sweet, I'm a bassist too (at least in my current band, I usually play guitar).

BTW, I've listened to Lips again and I am now pretty sure it is a keyboard patch with lots of delay, chorus, reverb, and modulation on it.
