Of course it's a competition. The girl who keeps her head inside the tank the longest, wins. Actually the monitor lizard was probably more scared of the children than vice versa. A 2 metre-long monitor lizard once ran away from me (and I can tell you that I was *extremely* relieved - if it had decided to walk towards me it would have been me doing the running away).
