Have just read on a NZ music site that Aerial is due to be released on November 8th - next Tuesday!!

Advanced reviews are praising it as one of her best. Here is a snippet from an on-line NZ music retailers site for those interested:

Still wondering why such a revered artist is not in PA

However - I am looking forward to buying this CD.

It's the album of the year for me.

The musical references include: Kate's earliest demo tapes, Björk, Massive Attack, renaissance music, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Gabriel, Paula Cole, Bryan Ferry, Acoustic Jazz, Flamenco, Liza Minnelli, Sade, Frankie goes to Hollywood (!) etc. and, of course, birds ... yes, there's a lot of birdsong and she sings with them atonally during the 42 minutes epic that describes a journey from 4 pm through sunset and summer night to sunrise at 4 am.

On the one hand the music is reminiscent of her back catalogue, especially of "Hounds of Love" and "The Sensual World", on the other hand it's totally different. On the first listen casual listeners could take many songs for uninteresting ambient chill-out music. So, don't be surprised if you have to dive deeper into her world to appreciate "Aerial".

"Hounds of Love" is still my favourite but "Aerial" is highly recommended nonetheless.

Already love the single, I'm sure the CD is going to be fantastic.

In Germany it's been released on Friday.

Not exactly sure but I think I've read somewhere that the Dutch and Italian fans have already got their copies, too.

Counting down now until the Record shop opens tomorrow morning (22hrs)!!

It would have been great if there had been a simultaneous release date worldwide as has been done with other albums.

Edit: Some reports say it was supposed to be a world-wide release... guess that includes allowances for different time zones....

It came yesterday! Its a lovely album, maybe not quite the masterpeice that Hounds Of Love is, but nevertheless a quirky and very original album. It also confirms that she is totally 'barking'..with one song about a washing machine!

Hmm, I'm reading the lyrics to that one - "slooshy sloshy slooshy sloshy". I'm sure it'll all make sense when I listen to it tonight. Great cover btw.

Listened to it last night and on the way to work this morning. Sounds like a brilliant album, definitely one that will grow on you I reckon. Probably won't surpass Hounds of Love, but then I don't think anything ever will. Don't like the washing machine song though.

"Magnificent" is the word for this album. Well worth the wait and while there are immediate standout tracks, this album gets better with each listening. Definitely a contender for best album for 2005... Now I will go back and listen to it some more
