As of today, five new Camel re-issues have been announced, all of which will be 2CD+BluRay.

Can you explain why Cherry/ Esoteric have recently been re-issuing so many albums they already have on the market, while there are simply tonnes of albums well within their sphere, which have been out of print for a long time, but they don't seem to touch? Would this be a rights issue?
An example would be, they have a whole Tangerine Dream subsection, but I'd love Edgar's Macula Transfer to be issued on CD; it's impossible to find now?

I'd suppose every publishing decision they make is a matter of rights and the projected demand. These Camel reissues are basically a matter of cutting pieces off the recent massive box set and issuing the new mixes separately. Pressure Points doesn't have a remix, but this is the first issue that combines the audio and video versions.

Hi, I think TD owns their own stuff and releases their own stuff as they feel is needed. Jerome is not involved in these decisions at all (I think he stepped out when the person running things was Edgar's wife) ... and I'm not sure they have exactly been clear on what to release or not. Another example is the set of performances that are listed as time of the day, with visuals, and they appear to be improvisations, and some of them are really far out, but I'm not sure they even fit a CD, as some are really long, and the other person that was like this was Klaus Schulze, when he did his WORKS series way back when, and for some 20 years no one could get it at all, and there was some far out stuff in there that many folks had never heard. It is now all released on CD, but I think the damage is done now, that he has passed away. I have not seen anyone even talk about these pieces at all ... and some of them are way better than his regular output, though in this case I think the "norm" was improvisation and live works ... and some of them are magnificent. The whole running ideas of how to control someone's catalog is a problem waiting to happen for someone that has a lot of stuff in their closet ... I think there is a lot of TD not released yet, but the problem is how does it fit? It's too far from the recent incarnation of TD, that is not a visual "story" like the earlier material was, as Edgar could be said to be a novelist with a musical instrument ... and the current version of TD is just a sort of AI thing ... I think it lacks the heart and beauty of its main name and founder ... and tried to create/justify a music change to something that might be more considered "modern", but it left its soul somewhere in Neptune, or Pluto ... and I think this has hurt the attention to the band and its work ... Thorsten seems to be the one that has the ideas in his pocket, but what they do as improvisations and then release on CD, including the shows with various guests that are not released regularly, shows an interesting side of TD that is way better than the new material they think they are more interested in selling ... maybe it is the idea of "something new" instead of re-hashing some older folks and experiments, but in my heart these experiments have been far better than their regular releases, and I find it bizarre that no one in their group can see that ... which means someone else is controlling things their own way regardless ... and it might point to Bianca. The weird thing is that Jerome probably will not release much or seem to do much, until after her time is up ... and that is sad, and I think will hurt Jerome's career though I have the feeling that he has enough that he doesn't need to actually work and do anything ... hard to tell ... a wasted talent is not showcasing his abilities at all.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Indeed. I already have all these albums, as well as the Total Pressure DVD (but not the original concert film). These new editions offer a few bonus tracks that I don't have on CD, like Autumn and Riverman, and The Traveller. I'm still considering ...

Actually, I don't really like this kind of open-ended re-issue programme, where we don't know in advance what's coming and what's going to be included. Esoteric did the same thing with Renaissance. |
