Lights Of Skadi - Progressive metal (Sweden) With influences from progressive metal bands like Haken, as well as classic greats like
Dream Theater, Pink Floyd and King Crimson, the multi-instrumentalists Jörgen André,
Jesper Jansson and Martin Ragnarsson formed the band Lights Of Skadi in 2017. In 2019,
the trio was signed by the music label COMEDIA, who released the 25-minute and 43
second-long debut single Time. In their review of the single, the English music blog Nordic
Music Central wrote "If anyone doubts that progressive rock isn't still alive and kicking in
Sweden this is the ultimate proof". After the single, Lights Of Skadi's instrumental debut album Shimmer was released, but
unfortunately the global pandemic crushed all the band's planned tour plans and festival
performances, which eventually contributed to Martin Ragnarsson's decision to drop out
and soon after, the third original member followed him... But now is Jesper Jansson from
the original trio back in a musical support role as both guitarist and co-composer and with
guest musicians such as Mattias IA Eklundh (Freak Kitchen, Jonas Hellborg a.o.), Andy
Gillion (ex-Mors Prinicipium Est), Polina Faustova, Cesar Ambrosini, Alexander Borger,
Carl Sjursvens and TheSaxPilot, Jörgen André, in the roles of both musician, composer
and producer, has driven the project forward.
The result is a magnificent multifaceted production. A Cinematic Experience (Orchestral Versions) features grand orchestrated versions of four
compositions from the upcoming album A Cinematic Experience: Book Of Dead, Gods, Far
Away, and Norse Code (Reprise). The latter is a reworked and powerful new version of one
of the tracks from Lights Of Skadi's debut album Shimmer from 2019. But with the
incredibly elaborate and musically grandiose visionary orchestrations, Lights Of Skadi
emphatically marks that they are now back on a yet higher level than on the acclaimed
debut five years ago. The name Lights Of Skadi refers to Norse mythology. Skadi, the Nordic giant goddess of winter,
hunting, and skiing. She rules over mountains, wilds, winter, revenge, knowledge, harm, justice,
and independence. Passionate in her pursuits, especially in the pursuit of justice, Skadi is also
determined to live as she pleases and not be told by the gods of Asgard. Skadi is the
personification of strength, courage, and endurance – words that also sum up the characteristics
of Lights Of Skadi. Skadi's name also relates to Scandinavia, where Lights Of Skadi must now
definitely rank as one of the most interesting projects on the progressive rock scene. "If anyone doubts that progressive rock isn’t still alive
and kicking in Sweden this is the ultimate proof".

There's a bit more info on Facebook:
Lights of Skadi is a three-piece instrumental progressive metal band from Sweden consisting of Jesper Jansson (formerly also of Cruel Devoted) on lead guitar, Martin Ragnarsson (formerly of The Juicy Fruits & Friends) on drums, lead guitar and orchestrations, and Jörgen André (formerly of Froadkill & The Juicy Fruits & Friends) on drums, synthesizers, rhythm guitar, bass & effects. All three musicians are multi-instrumentalists, and they shared the songwriting credits on all tracks of their debut album 'Shimmer', which was released on October 25th 2019. A 25-minute track from the album, entitled "Time", was released a month earlier on September 24th, with the band being signed to Swedish musician, journalist, editor, producer and entrepreneur Claes Olson's independent record label Comedia at the same time. Their influences are stated as Opeth, Periphery, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, King Crimson & Camel. Drummer and producer Jörgen André met guitarist and lead vocalist Adam Nilsson at school in 2011, and they started the band 'Froadkill' as a project based in Avesta, a small town in the south of Dalarna, Sweden in 2012. The line-up was completed by Christoffer Ekendahl on lead guitar and Fredrik Bernhardson on bass, and their first gig as a band was at the Qlturhuset Cultural Centre in Avesta in 2013. Jörgen was also a member of the instrumental progressive metal band 'The Juicy Fruits & Friends', who released their debut album 'Return of the Pineapple' in 2012, an album called 'Medium' in 2014, and a slightly heavier self-titled third album in 2016. The 'Medium' album featured Jörgen André on guitars, drums, bass, backing vocals & effects, Andreas Carlsson on bass & guitars and Alexander Borger on lead guitar - with guest vocals being provided by Lisa Gustavsson. 'Cruel Devoted' consisted of Jesper Jansson on guitar, Henrik Mäki on guitar & vocals, Emil Persson Bocanegra on bass and Simon Rådman on drums, and they released a 5-track EP called 'Home' in June 2016, followed by an album called 'All It Takes is Two Words' in March 2020. Lights of Skadi released their four track EP 'A Cinematic Experience (Orchestral versions)' via Comedia on 22nd November 2024, with the full album 'A Cinematic Experience', featuring contributions by guest musicians, due to be released by the same label in early 2025. ^ Band photo (September 2019) taken from Facebook.
