Part 10, and the penultimate issue of this (although I do like an even dozen and might not resist two more), one track per five years not in PA poll series. Vote for up to three, or actually more if you like. It starts with the remarkably named Dick Hyman & Mary Mayo, and ends with a Beach House track which would be a satisfying one to wrap this while series up with as Beach House has been very important to me since summer (lost my mother this summer, and the music has really helped dealing with that and all of the things that needed to be done, and still need to be done).
Dick Hyman & Mary Mayo "Maid of the Moon" (Moon Gas, 1963) Donovan "Atlantis" (Barabajagal, 1969) Herbie Mann "In Tangier / Paradise Beach" (Stone Flute, 1970) Tubeway Army "Down in the Park" (Replicas, 1979) Cocteau Twins "Musette and Drums" (Head Over Heels, 1983) And Also the Trees "Maps in Her Wrists and Arms" (Virus Meadow, 1986) Depeche Mode "Waiting for the Night" (Violator, 1990) Portishead "Over" (Portishead, 1997) Rachel's "Water From the Same Source" (Systems / Layers, 2003) Natural Snow Buildings "Daughters of Darkness" (Daughter of Darkness, 2009) Julia Holter "He's Running Through My Eyes" (Loud City Song, 2012) Mid-Air Thief "Protector" (Crumbling, 2018) Beach House "Black Magic" (Become, 2023) The playlist. ^ Thanks.
Today I'll go with Rachel's "Water From the Same Source", Julia Holter "He's Running Through My Eyes" and also Depeche Mode's "Waiting for the Night". And one more vote for "Black Magic" because despite being quite recent, it has a very special place in my heart. And one more vote for "In Tangiers" because that still moves me. |
