Nevermind, this thread is silly, there is still more and more Camel to come across.

Even if you run out of Camel, there are others that might fill that hump.
When you've run through Camel, if you haven't already checked it out, you may wish to try Caravan. From there you might get into lots of Canterbury Scene, Khan's Space Shanty, Egg and others |

Have you heard Rain Dances? It's my personal favorite.

Caravan are similar at times but not sure about the others. Pink Floyd and Genesis are similar at times too but I would be surprised if the OP doesn't know them.

I Can See Your House From Here has been a disappointment to many (although I think that Ice is stunning), but they did some more good ones before (Rain Dances, Duke; I also like Breathless but you may not) and after (Stationary Traveller, Harbour of Tears, Rajaz, A Nod and A Wink, maybe you also will like Dust and Dreams). The German band Anyone's Daughter has some Camel vibes in my view.

Yeah, I was thinking after Caravan one might wish to explore more of the Canterbury Scene, then those might be some more accessible Canterbury Scene ones to get into. Gong Shamal might be a good one. And to not mention one as Canterbury Scene, Renaissance would I think appeal to many into Camel. But the OP may well know it already. And in Prog Folk, Gryphon. Aside from the first four albums by Camel, I agree with verslibre that Rain Dances is worth checking out if you haven't already. |

Those are the same albums I have... though I have a The Snow Goose within the live album A Live Record... that one is good too. I also have a compilation album called Moonmadness... and it actually made me feel the same as you, that they did their best on their first 4 albums, before they started changing members. So, you might still find something to love from their first album. I have read many times that their album Rajaz is very good too, though I have not gotten to buying it, but I would like to get that one, plus the live album from around the same time, Coming of Age.

I have tried Caravan, they are awesome. I feel that Richard Sinclair's voice might also help out Camel, but I hope those two albums are not whimpers.

I believe AD was sometimes referred to as the German Camel Lots of good stuff to enjoy on later albums. I thought they did pop very well at times, like on Stationary Traveller, though that's more new wave meets prog A group that started out as Camel idolatry actually did put out one album that I consider excellent, is Mirage Edited by kenethlevine - August 31 2021 at 20:22 |

I agree with the OP. The first 3 or 4 albums are great then it goes down quite a bit. Much like PFM who had a massive creative burst at the beginning of their career then an ocean of nothing special. I own the much vaunted Rajaz but it doesn't do much for me tbh. Need to check out Rain Dances properly but what I've heard doesn't impress.

I actually think there are plenty of good albums after the first four Camel albums. ICSYHFH has my personal favourite Camel track "Ice" while Breathless is my favourite Camel album. Then there's Stationary Traveler and Nude from the 1980's which are two great albums. It doesn't end there. Harbour of Tears and Rajaz are also great.

Don't worry, there's much more warm and friendly progrock with somewhat weak vocals (that I like) to be discovered out there. The dutch Supersister (Supertwister is a tribute of sorts) first three albums should be on top of your list.

I still think you should consider listening to Rain Dances, Breathless, Nude. Stationary Traveller and A Nod and a Wink. Also the live album On the Road 1972. A similar band to Camel I recommend is Ain Soph (from Japan).

You do not run out of Camel until you have all of their albums including live albums. I would especially recommend their more recent live DVD releases, which are fantastic. |

Speaking of live albums, I love Camel's double-album A Live Record (1978), especially for the The Snow Goose (The Snow Goose is my favourite Camel studio album -- the original I mean). I read a review which loved the first half, but found the second half of A Live Record pointless, which is a version of The Snow Goose, so of course opinions vary.
I love this: As another Canterbury Scene/ Sound suggestion, since sometimes Camel is lumped in with that scene/ sound or considered Canterbury Scene/ Sound related, Soft Machine is a favourite of mine, and Camel opened for Soft Machine and was an influence. The Jazz-Rock Brand X is one that I would think might well scratch some of that jazzy Camel itch. Edited by Logan - September 01 2021 at 11:07 |

I do however understand that live material doesn't necessarily quench the thirst for new material. Just saying.
