Here's a really fun one - Deep Purple's epics - across their live and studio releases! Let's see how this one turns out.

Hard choices here, since I love Deep Purple a lot. At the end I voted for Fools.

I actually preferred the Dio/Rainbow live version of 'Mistreated' on 'Rainbow on Stage' - though I admit it's years since I've heard it. I've always been put off the Coverdale/Hughes vocal team since I saw that California Jam video. Hughes especially was just such a monumental w**ker. Errrm... I dunno, I think I'll go with 'Space Truckin' here. Probably should just go with 'Child in Time', but it's getting plenty of love.

When I was young, I would've picked Space Truckin' from Made In Japan in a heartbeat. But today, I'll vote for Child In Time.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Among the options, Child in Time.
Yet my favourites are not here, which are Perfect Strangers and Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming. |

also Knocking at Your Back Door from the Perfect Strangers album. also Anthem from their second album fits the epic description (if I may say so).

Nice! Knocking at Your Back Door is absolutely epic. Seemingly a regular 80s' hit, but has an edge over the typical ones. Anthem... I'd say beautifully captivating, but not epic for that; whilst it is like The Odyssey, when compared with Smoke on the Water. Come on, even the story of how it (SotW) was written makes the song's "character" bleed out. |
