Talking about under-appreciated artists and albums, Nick Saloman and Bevis Frond must be one of Britain's most "obscure" talents in rock. Nick has penned many a tune and carried on with his style of proggy psychedelic jamming sound for many moons now. Who else here appreciates Nick's music and albums.

Again you mention an interesting band...I have Marshland by the Frond... and I bet a few others here also have it. I have heard a few others by him but never bought any others.
I also liked Sun Dial in the old days and I still play my Robyn Hitchcock cd's....who is probably popular with many here also.

No matter how hard I tried, I could never get Robyn Hitchcock under my skin :):)........I'm rushing off to listen to Sun Dial right now....thanks for the nifty heads up, man :). If you dig the Frond you might wanna dig into THE OUTSKIRTS OF INFINITY, also included in Nick's record co Woronzow :):)

Long time Bevis Frond fan! I have these albums (all on CD) - chronologically (or close to it) - I put an asterisk by the ones I consider my favorites.
Inner Marshland * Through the Looking Glass (archival; outtakes etc) The Auntie Winnie Album Triptych * Any Gas Faster New River Head * (great double album that kind of began his "hi fi" phase after a bunch of lo-fi albums) London Stone A Gathering of Fronds (basically the stuff that wasn't originally released on New River Head before that album was reissued, so it's redundant now) It Just Is Sprawl Live at the Great American Music Hall Acid Jam 2 * (not merely a bunch of directionless jams - actual songs (albeit simple songs) that stretch out into huge jams) Vavona Burr Valedictory Songs What Did for the Dinosaurs * Hit Squad * (my favorite. just stunning) The Leaving of London White Numbers Example 22

If you're not familiar (I think dr wu23 is likely to be), one of my all-time favourite people, who was a big influence on Bevis Frond, is Tom Rapp (and Pearls Before Swine). "For The Dead In Space" was a tribute CD for Tom, including "Lepers and Roses," performed by Bevis Frond, with many other artists.
List of Studio Albums, I find something to enjoy on all of them, with the exception of "Familiar Songs," which are just re-worked and arranged songs from previous recordings. knock-down favourites have asterisks: One Nation Underground (1967, ESP-Disk); 50th Anniversary re-issue (2017, Drag City) Balaklava (1968, ESP-Disk); 50th Anniversary re-issue (2018, Drag City) *These Things Too (1969, Reprise) *The Use of Ashes (1970, Reprise) City of Gold (1971, Reprise) (Thos. Rapp / Pearls Before Swine) *Beautiful Lies You Could Live In (1971, Reprise) (Tom Rapp / Pearls Before Swine) Familiar Songs (1972, Reprise) (Tom Rapp) *Stardancer (1972, Blue Thumb) (Tom Rapp) Sunforest (1973, Blue Thumb) (Tom Rapp / Pearls Before Swine) *A Journal of the Plague Year (1999, Woronzow) (Tom Rapp) (on Nick Salomon's label) Edited by Snicolette - December 09 2020 at 17:35 |

A nice one from “Triptych”, in the early, home studio days.

I think I suggested Bevis Frond back in 2008, but I don't remember.
