I've only just recently beginning to explore Italian prog. So far I really enjoyed Le Orme's Felona e Sorona album, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso's debut album and, to some extent, Per un Amico by PFM.

Btw. I went through the overall top 100, and I notice it includes quite a few Italian prog albums. But no krautrock?

It's interesting that at rateyourmusic under the progressive rock chart, it has three Can albums in the top ten. Faust is at 24. Neu is at 27 and 28. Amon Düül II is at 34. Faust is at 43. CLICK HERE FOR CHART

Krautrock does much better there -- different community. I love Krautrock, and don't care much for the charts at PA. It seems a very safe and conventional Prog list here, whereas my tastes tend to be more off-beat, and much cooler.

Duos for fave acts

I know PFM and Maxophone from late 90's; in pre-internet era, a friend of a friend, older than us, had a huge collection of CD's from where we could borrow. There I met the aforementioned and the likes of Caravan, Renaissance, Triumvirat, etc.

I prefer L'Isola to Storia..

My favorite track on L'Isola is "Is My Face on Straight".

There's so much great Italian Prog it would be impossible for me to choose a favourite. An Area, Franco Battiato, a Goblin, a Fabio Frizzi, Franco Leprino, Banco del Mutuo SOccorso, Le Orme etc. etc. So many great ones to choose from.

PFM are awesome only been listening to Italian Prog over the last 4/5 years and I`ve totally impressed with the bands I`ve heard

I'm not sure I can say anything about PFM that has not already been said ... between them and BANCO, LE ORME and a couple other bands, you have some magnificent music all around, and it deserves a lot of credit, and one other detail that is incredible ... the recent album by BANCO without the great late singer is FANTASTIC in Vittorio's hands, and one of PFM's latest is also a GREAT listen ... and I have not kept up with Le Orme, one band that will still be creating new material on their wooden boxes, I bet!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

yeah that was Di Cioccio on the batteria and Mussida. Funny... last Friday we were comparing our plague afflicted domes of letttuce at the office and I brought that video up

and said I ain't self cutting until I start looking like this dude. LOL

It might not have Sexy Stipe kind of locks.. but have no doubt he had no problem getting laid...

then again all you need is a guitar and women will start losing the clothes...

The Pedro and Micky Experience - When one no longer requires psychotropics to trip

I was meant to see Banco live in Bologna recently. Unfortunately that wasn't to be, due to the Coronavirus lockdown. I hope they come back when concerts are possible again. There isn't a weak second on their first three albums, and the new Transiberiana is astonishingly good, too. I can relate to them much better than to PFM for some reason.

I love Area, they're weird and innovative, but I'm less often in the mood for them than for Banco. Franco Battiato has some genius stuff. However my favourite Italian album is this, which doesn't really sound like PFM but rather like a predecessor of the magnificient last two Talk Talk albums. This is utterly beautiful!
