I made this poll to prove, why I think 1978 wasn´t very good album year, but I am not sure anymore, am I right. I believed I´ve got only 25 or less albums from 1978, but I have to leave albums out (for example Yes Tormato). Anyway feel free to vote although heard only one album (I believe Jethro or Genesis will win).

I'm confident he's saying feel free to vote even if you have only heard one album, not that he has only heard one of these.

...I guess I didn´t make myself clear...I meaned if YOU have heard only one album, you still can vote it. I have heard these all many times, I always listen vinyls that I buy many times. And I haven´t voted, hard to say which is my fav of these, maybe Gustavson.

I love lots of music from 1978, just in the PA DB you saw some of my favourites, but have heard quite little of this list (seven anyway). The only album of Dr. John I have is Gris-Gris (love that album). Of these, The Kick Inside.
I don't quite see how this exercise would have proven, beyond a reasonable doubt, to others, or even to yourself, that it's not a good year, instead it might have shown that you have not explored the year enough to hold a well-informed opinion (and of course it's so subjective even if one has delved into lots, with a huge amount of diversity of musical expression). I think every year that I know of is a good year, in that every year I've explored deeply enough has yielded terrific per my tastes music. I still do tend to favour late 60s through early 70s albums on the whole. Edited by Logan - March 02 2020 at 11:25 |

Best and greatest are such subjective statements (I tend to avoid such terminology),. Looking at Rate Your Music, Gris-Gris is the highest-rated of his. Of course I wouldn't know which I liked best without hearing those four, but I do know that I really love Gris-Gris (I did a poll comparing that to Exuma a while back and was disappointed at the lack of response). Better per what you've heard/ know, I guess you mean. It may be a communication thing, but I just cant get quite into your mindset. Even when speaking great in a purely subjective manner, I would not be comfortable expressing such an opinion without having heard a huge amount of music from a huge number of styles. You could say it's not great according to your collection/ from what you know and like, but it's not a deep, well-researched thesis/analysis. Edited by Logan - March 02 2020 at 11:54 |

It´s ok you don´t understand me. Anyway it´s all just my subjective opinion, I don´t believe there is possible to be objective opinion about popular music what have been the greatest period in it. But that´s fact these days it all has become much more commercial thing with much more planning what kind of music there will come to many artists albums. I guess I have had some illusion that I have at least some kind of objective understanding what is great in the popular music and what is not, but at least after this thread I know I don´t. I can give you arguments about my understanding of great music, but it´s anyway just my very subjective understanding.

Great selection
There are a bunch of albums I could vote for depending on the day and my mood...but seeing the Magazine debut without any love made me jump for it. Such a brilliant album (and band!). |

I voted Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses, but for some reason the vote doesn't show. Oh well. Other albums on the poll that I love are Captain Beefheart - Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) and Finnish classics Hector - Kadonneet lapset and Juice Leskinen Slam - Tauko I (they both rely much on the lyrics, so you might not find them very interesting if you don't know the language).
