Topic: Looking for Symphonic Prog Posted: September 08 2005 at 00:04 |
I just started listening to prog about 6 months ago, and I'm looking to
buy some CD's. I've d/led a bunch of songs off this site and my
favorite bands are...Yes, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant,
Genesis, Camel, PFM, King Crimson, VdGG I'm looking to get the
most/best music for my money. What albums would you guys recommend in
this area?
btw I already/only have DSotM, wish you were here, close to the edge, and fragile

Try some more recent symphonic neo-prog...such as Glass Hammer (Lex Rex), Cairo (Conflicts & Dreams) and Spock's Beard (V)...I don't think you'll be disappointed with that selection.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

For Yes, I would try The Yes Album, Relayer, Topographic Oceans and Going For The One.
For Genesis, anything from Trespass to Lamb Lies Down.
Camel - I only really know The Snow Goose and Moonmadness, these are great.
King Crimson - the early ones up to Red are great, not too well up on anything afterwards.
As for other bands, try IQ, Pendragon and Glass Hammer.

Camel: in addition to the suggestions given above, I would add
Mirage
Pink Floyd: Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Animals, The Wall
Gentle Giant: Acquiring the taste, Octopus
PFM: Storia di un minuto, Per un amico
VDGG: H to he, Pawn hearts, Godbluff
I also recommend Focus (Focus III, Hamburger concerto), Eloy
(Ocean, Planets), Steve Hackett (Voyage of the acolyte, Spectral
mornings).
Of course there's a lot more...
Welcome to the wonderful (and expensive!) world of Prog!

Puzzle by Mandrake Memorial, is what you need to find, and Electric storm in hell by White Noise
is also worth a listen.
never did like emerson lake and hittler . too pretentious and only in it for the money!
