And you know what's another album that nobody talks about? Big Generator. Did you know that Easy Livin gave it 4 stars?

I have about 25 albums (including some live ones) by Hammill.  Ouch!

So, how do you like Veracious?  I really love it.  Some of the best Hammill vocal performances I've ever heard.

Sublime.

Damn it James, you're beating me in the "who has less and consequently less embarrassing" post per day thing.

Veracious is very good... I think Hammill there is maybe not as flexible with his vocals as he has been on some of his older live stuff, and the aggressive Hammill of the Skeletons Of Songs sort of thing is my pick. I'm afraid I don't know many of the studio versions of the material on that one. Stuart Gordon is great, though, the selection's good, and Hammill's vocals would be exceptional for anyone but him, as would the selection. Still, great stuff, I'd certainly give it at the very least a three and very probably a four.

Coincidentally, And Close As This has some of his best vocals I can think of.

5970 [10.51 posts per day]

heck, I seem to be going over 10. That's quite depressing, I shouldn't argue with Ivan.

Hmm, apparently French Eurovision popster Sébastian Tellier is rumoured to be a son of someone from Magma.  However, I've tried to find this out and it never mentions who.  Just that his father was in Magma.

I don't know of anyone with the surname Tellier who was in Magma.  So I presume Tellier is not Sébastian's real surname.

Re: Veracious

I don't know a lot of the material either but that does not take anything away from me loving these versions.  Like Veronica is on an '80s release so I doubt it's as good as that live version.

I'd give it 5/5 without hesitation.  It's amazing.

I don't think I have And Close As This... weird.  I thought I did.  It maybe the one that the remaster is screwed up on; hence why I don't have it.

Yep, And Close As This has been suspended on Sofa Sound because the sonic quality of the remaster was screwed.  So it's been withdrawn.

I'm still hoping this will get sorted out soon...

I think knowing the original material often gives you a much better appreciation of where the strengths and weaknesses of the live take are, and also how the song has changed with the performance... sometimes, I think, it's hard to fully appreciate what someone's achieving with a live track without knowing how it compares to the studio. That's my comment. I'll give it another listen later today, though.

Plus, the 80s releases are great fun (Sitting Targets Heart... dance/rock on)

Anyway, I'm not too picky about production, have to admit ACAT could be much clearer in terms of production, but it's not unlistenable, and I tend to focus on content first, effects later.

Well I think the live versions are often closer to the artists true vision.

Of course, it's just Hammill and Gordon but it's more raw due to that.

Easy to Slip Away is amazing and that's one I have heard in album form.

I'm a Yes fanboy, but that album is absolutely dreadful.  Four stars, eh?  Well, to each his own, I guess.  * shrugs *
