What if my list contains jam bands, where their best moments are usually on live albums/shows?

Do whatever you want. I didn't mean for my personal guidelines to be restrictive to others. I was just encouraging people to pick actually albums and not collections of greatest hits, whether live or otherwise. In the case of many jam bands and jazz artists, the live albums are quite different than those of more traditional rock artists.

I included Tangerine Dream - Ricochet and 801- Live in my list as I think both are great examples of the bands music. In the case of 801 I find it much better than Listen Now, it probably wouldn't make my top 500.

Here's my top 100. Sheesh, it was actually a lot of work. In some cases it contains some different material than what's come up so far. They've been rank ordered, although my judgements are not fixed in stone. They only contain progressive material, so classical guitar and blues albums weren't counted. Only albums that I owned were counted. It was extra difficult because largest bulk of my collection is out of state. There were some that I remember liking, but I couldn't remember the name of the album, one from PFM for instance. There's another that I can't remember the band name nor the album name, just the music. Anyway, here it is:

1. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (Genesis)
2. Nursery Cryme (Genesis)
3. Spectral Mornings (Steve Hackett)
4. Tresspass (Genesis)
5. To Watch the Storms (Steve Hackett)

22. Now (Jade Warrior)
23. Eclipse (Jade Warrior)
24. Fifth Element (Jade Warrior)
25. Last Autumns Dream (Jade Warrior)
26. Defector (Steve Hackett)
27. Benefit (Jethro Tull)
28. Guitar (Frank Zappa)
29. Minstrel in the Gallery (Jethro Tull)
30. Thick as a Brick (Jethro Tull)

31. Security (Peter Gabriel)

97. Pawn Hearts (Van der Graaf Generator)
98. H to He Who Am the Only One (Van der Graaf Generator)
99. Cured (Steve Hackett)
100. The World (Pendragon)

I thought about counting the Zappa Shut Up N' Play Yer Guitar albums as all one box set, but they were all individually titled. If I did then I could get Nektar's Journey to the Center of the Eye and KC's Lark's Tongue in the top ten. Oh well.

89-Tender Prey - Nick Cave
90-The Good Son - Nick Cave
91-Talking Book - Stevie Wonder
92-Fulfillingness' First Finale - Stevie Wonder
93-What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
94-Honky Château - Elton John
95-Da Da - Alice Cooper
96-Endtroducing - DJ Shadow
97-Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum
98-Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
99-Imperial Bedroom - Elvis Costello
100-Crosby, Stills and Nash - Crosby, Stills and Nash

There are about 40 or 50 others that could've been in the 50-100 range, so hey.

Also, this list makes it look like I prefer a damned Bruce Springsteen album over Talking Book - that's insane. I'm just too lazy to change the list around.

Music is about music. Not mass-produced sounds. Prog is the answer. The answer to everything musical. Prog uses instruments, ensembles and decent materials.
Prog is the answer.
