Ok. That's about it for me.
The ending 1:30 is the best part, and gets me moving. Though the heavy part in general is kind of lame. The quiet part has some nice lyrics, but the drums still sound overproduced. I wish the mallet percussion was real. I'll agree with Stone and say that the keyboard sounds were nice.

Yup. I cheated...caved...gave in or whatever you wanna call it cause I just couldn't help myself. I have been so anxious to hear IQ's latest tackling, so I cranked the title track and just loved it. I find no fault in the musical direction at all. It is both emotional, deep, provacative and 5:50min in the track gets heavenly Heavy.
Love the keyboards, Esau's steady and punchy Bass and Nicholl's vocals were the big standouts for me with in the title track. This song is an absolute winner and very much sets the tone for my most anticipated release of 2014. All smiles here. |

Seems to have some keyboard sounds like those used by Martin Orford on Nomzamo (No Love Lost).
I like it and at times it almost drifts into prog metal. Nicholls voice still holding up is the most important thing.

Mine arrived today. Solid release and absolutely nothing that would be considered a surprise or unexpected has to be said. The production seems a lot more dense than normal , nice atmospheres from Neil while Cookie sounds nice and fluid. Not totally convinced it's quite at the same level as the fantastic Frequency but that standard was always going to be hard to maintain.

I'm still on my first listen, really, but I need to say the "bonus disc" is actually really freaking good. Is this meant to be a double album? Because these are definitely not just B-sides.

Yes although when I commented I hadn't listened to the second disc which is probably my favourite of the two discs. I think they have played a little 'safe' on disc one perhaps. Disc Two might be 4.5 stars on its own. The two discs together is easily 4 stars.

Exactly. Playing it safe seems about right. It does seem like a mix between Ever and Frequency to me. Really a bit solemn and calm, without being outright depressing. They let loose on disc 2. |

Ok. Sounds like a well balanced album then. You have your light and you have your heavy. This is good, and I take it both of you gentlemen care more for the heavy! . This is sounding like IQ's most well balanced record. I'm one week away from enjoying it. Edited by progbethyname - April 28 2014 at 00:10 |

Omg!!! Does anyone else think KNUCKLEHEAD is amazing!?
Wow. I gotta say that overall IQ have made one incredible album. Just got my first listen of the beautiful double disc'r and today, and I'm incredibly happy with what I heard. It's hard to pick one favourite track right now, but the raw heavily built KNUCKLEHEAD really has its hooks in me. I also love Holmes's sparse editions of the Kentucky Banjo and Mandolin. Really adds to some great versatility and helps the band branch out into different sound platforms. Speaking of platforms, what about TEN MILLION DEMONS?! What a wonderfully electronically flavored track and certainly a track that sounds like really nothing they have done before. I'm impressed. There is so much versatility in the album and I think the title track 'The Road Of Bones' really represents the album very well as a whole. Lots of versatile moments. Not a boring moment on this album at all for me. Once again. All smiles. |

It appears this album is not on the InsideOut label, so I am unlikely to get it at my local store. Anyone know what U.S. mail order vendor has the best price (two-disc set please!)?

IQ are on their own label GEP ('Giant Electric Pea'). I understand that with the current success of the pound sterling its not a great idea buying direct if you live in the US.

Digital download of the two-disc set in the USA for less than 10 bucks at Amazon (also plays in their 'cloud player'): http://www.amazon.com/The-Road-Of-Bones-Iq/dp/B00JXXX8RM. More than four times this price on CD though.
