Where's the "this endless music competition stuff is silly and juvenile -- I like both of those fine bands equally well, and never thought I'd have to choose one at the expense of the other" option?
No vote from me -- I'd pick either, both, or neither, depending on my mood at any given time. My moods vary. My tastes in music range far. I don't view my music collection as some sort of sonic "war zone."
Sorry, but I'll say it again: many pollsters here must be record company execs with limited budgets (and even more limited vision), accountant-types, or just plain lacking in original topics for polls and threads.

Wow, this is a tough choice, because I love both bands a lot, but I think I'll go with King Crimson. I like their material just a bit more than Pink Floyd material. Plus, KC is much more consistent at putting out good music than Floyd...

Would you like some Bailey's?

Peter, you're doing that patronizing thing again. ;-)
AMG calls King Crimson "the thinking man's Pink Floyd" in the first sentence of their Bio, and I've never been able to figure out why.

I know, and I always feel a twinge of guilt afterward, but I guess I just don't get the popularity of these ubiquitous "VS" polls.
In all honesty, I think it's symptomatic of a rather child-like way to look at music. Perhaps it even points to a darker aspect of human nature: the lamentable tendency to reduce all human interaction and endeavor, even art, to competition -- to divide the world into only winners and losers.
As I indicated, this is the record company executive or radio programmer way to look at music -- as mere plastic product, with merit or "worth" exactingly measured according to popularity (that is, sales).
I guess I'd hoped serious "progressive" music fans might be deeper and broader-minded than that, and not fall for the "bean counter" mindset which saw their preferred music marginalized & denigrated by THE INDUSTRY in the first place, and which sees the airwaves swamped in countless sound-alike clone bands, and cutie-pie, flavour-of-the-month, manufactured instant "stars"....
American Idol syndrome. Who will be the next Pussycat Progarchives Doll?
Music is not sport, and emotion is not math -- or is it?

KFC?
It can seem like a good idea, but it always leaves me feeling a little bit guilty and sick in the end....

Nah, Peter, that's just people on the internet. Competitions and lists are the only pleasures we have. If they weren't, we'd be outside!
Going on the internet in general is like KFC, but at least it's non-fattening. ;-)
And can anyone figure out a relation between King Crimson and Pink Floyd's music? It's actually at the beginning of the review of ITCOTCK, not their bio, but I still don't see any connection.

I love Pink Floyd, they're great; but King Crimson is, IMHO, one of the most versatile and impressive bands, ever. Lizard and Larks' Tongues are enough for me to vote for them over any other bands. Not to mention they still release very good material.

Reminds me of Fripp's announcement before a set in September, 1973: "We're not to be enjoyed. We're an intellectual band." Whereas Floyd wouldn't have addressed the crowd at all.

You say we can't get along... Well, I say
YES WE CAN!Plus, I don't care if Fripp thinks KC is not to be enjoyed because it's an intellectual band: he's just wrong! I' say KC is the proof that an intelectual band CAN be enjoyable... and Yes, Renaissance, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Van der Graaf (well, not so much)... Oh, and Zappa! And if you do think what you say, you should be listening to music you do not enjoy. Hey, listen to The Wall, then, bet you won't enjoy it And have a bad time while at it (hey, just kidding! )

Oh come on! I watched that Prog night on BBC4 last night and Fripp was 'Twiddly Deeing' like a goodun! It was a really funny show. That stuff all looks so bloody dated now. In fact it looked pretty dated by 1977 to be honest. LOADS od teiddly dee

I can only assume Fripp was being ironic after a particularly duff review or something. If he meant it, he deserves a slap, though I would imagine he'd be utterly red faced about it now.
