It's better than Load or Reload, but still very samey and lacking in experimentation: It seems like a lazy album to me, with no real passion - which is why I don't like it.
And since my brother gave me the DVD of "The Making of", I have much less respect for the band than I did after I heard they were joining the RIAA in their clampdown of music "pirates" - and that takes some doing.
They were amazing before "Load".

where can you support the argument of well-written songs????
all the songs are based on one extremely simple riff with no lead guitars at all and lyrics that are repeated over and over again...
|
WELL-WRITTEN SONGS...should have put IMO in there. I do believe they put thought and time into the songs they wrote. I fully believe that James was telling stories in his lyrics. That's why I sad what I said. No lead guitar? So bloody what? Has that been in vogue lately? No. Simple riffs? So? Who cares? Listen to it for what it is...a decent album. Bravo, guys. |
According to Bob Rock, the album was a result of a week of jamming, then him cutting/pasting the riffs he liked into songs with Pro-Tools, then giving the result to James and having him come up with lyrics for it. Sad.

I posted this topic to express my disgust for this "album" (GOD forgive me)
Although I am a huge fan of Metallica, this is the worst album I have ever heard in my life.
I really can't find something worse. I even believe that Load/Reload were "ok".
What is your opinion? My apologies if this thread has occured in the past |
my opinion is that lars and james ate some reynolds aluminum foil and defecated st. anger out

St. Anger is one of he worst Metal albums I've ever even tried to listen to (Along with deathcrush and numerous other Black metal albums), makes some Black metal drumming sound very polished and clean!
The album doesn't even sound like songs were written.

Hetfield needs to start f**king palm muting some riffs again(more than he did on St. Anger) , it sounds like muddy crap when you play that many power chords without something do chop up the sound, and the drop tuning doesn't exactly help with this problem.

Most likely the New Metallica album will sound slightly better, but still sound like Lars saying how much downloading sucks.

Heard it a long time ago, I remember almost nothing about it. The album cover's pretty crummy, though. It's the angry red fist of angry anger... IT'S ANGGGRRRYYYYY!

It´s a piece of sh*t, and Metallica has delivered a lot of sh*t since Load (I would even say that the Black album is a great great album!) but St Anger takes the cake

It's a good cd.
Obviously not Metallica's best, and I don't think anyone elses favourite, but overall it's a good record.
Take out the crappy drum sound, no solos, and rather simple cover, and you've got some badass riffing moments. Frantic, St. Anger, Some Kind of Monster, Shoot Me Again, Sweet Amber and The Unnamed Feeling are all really good songs.
