He wasn't, Henry! I've been supporting this poor man's case for years. The surviving ancient sources are simply not reliable.

Depends what he's playing.  Hasn't he gone a bit commercial?

My biology teacher is a goddamn troll. He showed the class a PowerPoint presentation about STDs and the son of a bitch insisted on showing photos of affected patients.

And that was like one hour before I had lunch on a steakhouse.

That's what I was thinking, that he wouldn't play anything I'd necessarily enjoy.  Doubt he'd start breaking out Mwandishi material or anything like that.

I'm at school so I can't listen to it now, of course the size doesn't mean it's not good. I was just commenting that I'm usually wary when a free improvisation album has 10+ people because it's very difficult to prevent it from collapsing into incomprehensibility. There used to be a clip on Youtube that was a good example of this, but it seems to be gone now. It was from the album Company 5 and has Wadada Leo Smith, Maarten van Regteren Altena, Tristan Honsinger, Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacey, and Evan Parker all playing at the same time. It works about as well as you would imagine.

The majority of his work is just jazz, with a hard bop twist. Most isn't fusion.

Herbie isn't coming anywhere near here but I assume he won't play anything I want to hear anyway.
