I think so too.  But the ending to Dispose of Your Optimism is probably the coolest moment they've created yet.

Oh yeah, I'm super excited for the new Opeth too.  I can't wait to see if it sounds as different as Mikael says it will.

UnexpecT's new album dropped today, that would have to have been my other most anticipated album apart from T.R.A.M.

You can have your guarantee back.  Oh wait, yes, they're more enjoyable than Periphery.

If they cut out the angry parts and just had the intro and the sax and piano parts, I'd like it more.  His clean voice is still a bit irritating.

Can they not just play slower music without the shouting  and growls or at least go heavy but not have the shouting?  Or can they just borrow Akerfeldt?  I don't like the -core vocals really.

I might put it into Audacity and remove the heavy bits. Tongue

Basically they need to take the Djent out.

Actually his vocals are a lot closer to death metal than -core, but whatever.

And I agree that the softer stuff is their best stuff, but I like the metal a ton too.  In my opinion, the heavy contrast makes it infinitely more interesting.

The vocals at the end were better.  Is that a different vocalist?

Yeah, death metal vocals but still, I only really like them when Mikael does them.  Most just sound annoying and the same to my ears.

It was certainly different to the norm though.  It could grow on me, I guess.

Grrr, I have tune stuck in my head and I cannot place who it's by!  It might be Agalloch.  Not sure.

Actually, no, I think it's Shining.

Or maybe Zu.

Nope, same guy.  Chris Barretto, he actually was one of Periphery's former vocalists.  He's also their sax player.  He can do a couple of different styles, both the cleans, the growls, and the backing shouts.  He just layers them in the studio.

Akerfeldt does have some of the best growls in music.  So deep and throaty.  Oh man I wish I could growl like that.

Here's another really good track of theirs:

I'd recommend listening to the whole song, but if you absolutely cannot stand it, fast forward to about 15 seconds before the six minute mark.  The ending is unbelievable, but the effect isn't quite as good when you haven't sat through the metal maelstrom before it.

Oh yeah, and the guitar solo at the very end, I can play that.  It's awesome.

Nope, but it looks like the right conditions before a storm right now.  Breezy, overcast, and very warm and muggy.

Oops, forgot about T.R.A.M.  That's also very highly anticipated by me.

I'm looking forward to the new Guapo.  I realise D::O::S is not in the band now but they're still pursuing that Zeuhl influenced sound, I believe.

Apparently t-storms are supposed to roll through here smack dab in the middle of the Tigers' game tonight, so I am just curious as to where they are now.

And Rob's lunch post from earlier has provided me with an ad for "Weekend Nachos Worthless", some "
furious, grimy, f**k-you Hardcore with a capital H".

Yeah, I had heard there were supposed to be some big storms on the horizon, but looking on the radar there's only some very small smatterings of storm patterns.  Doesn't look like anything big on this end.
