you seriously do; Don Cab 2 or American Don fantastic, the debut For Respect also excellent ..SWIMS are interesting, and I remeber Fugazi from years ago but not the music, don't think it's Mathrock though, hmm?

I should try some more math, but I don't know if I'd like it.

From what bit of math rock I've listened to, I haven't been interested yet. Although all I've heard so far is Godspeed and I absolutely despised it.

Hey Pat. Have you heard of Fond of Tigers? Their two albums are/were available on eMusic. They are listed as eclectic, but I think that they might be part math rock and part RIO. Anyhow, here is the lone review that was done on their one album. This should interest you and James, if he hasn't heard them. Assaf was really promoting them earlier in the year. http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=185415

Well Godspeed is pure post, are they not? I tried them out and that type of music just ain't my thing, that's for sure. |

Yeah, they are. I suppose if I could find something that wasn't pure math/post but a blend of other genres, that would be easier for me to digest. I could always ask Chris for help with that I suppose. |

Have you guys heard Battles? There was a link to a live concert from them on PA awhile back. They weren't too bad and I read comparisons of them to Rush.

I've heard of them, but I haven't heard them yet. Might have to check them out then if there's a Rush-esque sound to them.

Here is the link to a one hour concert listed on YouTube that was previously listed in a Battles thread. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PbYLafK1OU I'll be honest that I don't really see the Rush connection, but I had read such comparisons. Apparently, half of the band's members are former Don Caballero members.

Fugazi is a post hardcore band for those wondering and one of the earliest in the scene too AFAIK.

Why are all the posts back-to-front?
Anyhow David, stop showing your n00biness. GY!BE are Post-Rock, not Math Rock. Try Upsilon Acrux. They're not pure Math Rock and are influenced by Krimson, Henry Cow, Magma and lots of others. Edited by James - December 24 2008 at 04:08 |
