I was actually considering applying there, and may still, though the chances of me doing so are admittedly diminished

I'm still very sad for the victims and their families but I'm also thinking about those VT students and professors. Two or three days won't be enough to forget all the events. The ambient there will remain suffocating for months, maybe years, I think.

I believe there's a deep problem in some sections of society.

I'm not a pro gun person (Even when I got one when asaulted after passing three psychological tests and a habillity in the weapon) but we can't blame guns, we must blame people.

I don't mean to take this off topic but thats not true. Look at just about any Middle Eastern, or South Asian country in general. Psychopathic episodes like this happen much more in those countries, just no tint he form of school shootings.

Great, Fox had Jack Thompson on in an interview and blamed videogames for this tragic incident. Thompson was labeled as an expert in school shootings. Thanks Fox for politicizing the shootings so fast.Dead

Yet again, Jack Thompson figures out a way make me want to vomit.  There is absolutely no reason to blame this on video games.  For all he knows, the shooter never touched a controller in his life.  I've got an idea: let's examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting before we make conclusions!

Yes, but we're not talking about hate crimes or politically caused, we're talking about supposedly normal students from the elite who has access to a university or kids from schools.

And yes politicians using this make want to vomit, plus the seccurity of the university sucks.

I heard on CNN in Spanish that the shooter walked armed during 15 minutes from the rooms to the other side of the Unieversity and the authorities did nothing..

Is this true?

I have never been south of Delaware, but I realized today just how different the scope of my world seems now that I'm in college.  I know people from everywhere.  I know people from Virginia.  A woman with whom I've been in communication with since we were both prospective students interested in the same school (we both go here now) found out this evening that one of her friends was killed.  It shouldn't seem any more horrific because someone I know lost a friend than it otherwise would, because this is unbelievably horrible, but it somehow it does.

And life goes on, and the midterm I can't concentrate on studying for anymore is still happening tomorrow, and it's all so bizarre.

I don't know about that specific time, but I'm pretty sure yes. They can clearly be seen sitting outside the building while the shooter was on his rampage.

Anyone notice something fishy about this?

The first report released says the shooting was domestic. For them to know this they would have to know who he was or how could the identify it as domestic in nature.

The second report says the shooter was carrying no ID, and he shot himself in the face so he cannot be ID'd.

This doesn't add up.

Just terrible.

I will say that the VT students I've seen today are some of the most well-spoken, level-headed, brave young people I've ever witnessed

Amazing, this isn't very clear on CNN en Español, I'm watching CNN in English but there's no new info, only parents and policemen speaking general information with no value at all.

Anyone notice something fishy about this?

After reading your post and by my legal experience, something smells bad.

The first report released says the shooting was domestic. For them to know this they would have to know who he was or how could the identify it as domestic in nature.

CNN en Español has said that the guy (Identity is not known) killed his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend in the bedroom before crossing the whole university.

Somebody please tell me, If they know it's the ex-boyfriend how in hell doesn't the press know the identity?

With less information they are able to know much more, a friend, the clasmates must know the ex-boyfriend or at least hs first name, there must be thousand of cel phones with camera, sounds like somebody is moving strings to keep things away from the public.

The second report says the shooter was carrying no ID, and he shot himself in the face so he cannot be ID'd.

Now, if there's no ID and no face...How does CNN en Español knows it's the former boyfriend???

This doesn't add up.

The problem is that it adds up, but the addition gives a dangerous result,  everything is wild guess only in this moment, lets wait.

Hey everyone.

Thanks for the support I've received from the PA community today.  It's been really great to have a place where I could come and vent when I needed to.  I've received a number of thoughtful messages from folks here and it's really made things easier to deal with.

Anyway, here's my latest update:

My close friend, who is also the chief engineer of the campus radio station where I work, was wounded twice in his leg, and one of the bullets split his Femural Artery, which is usually a pretty bad condition.  He is fine and stable now at the hospital and we'll be able to visit him tomorrow.

I had another friend, who was one of the resident advisors killed in the first round of shootings.  Admittedly, I didn't know him very well, and he was more of an acquaintance through other friends, but it is still tragic and he will be missed by a lot of people.

For now, I am going to be at the radio station all night preparing for a round of mainstream media interviews early in the morning.  This is because the local NPR affiliate (which is run by VT administration) refused to make any comments to media and deferred all traffic to us, a tiny student-run station.

Thanks again to everyone for their support, I'll check in again as soon as I can.

Oh my God.... I'm sorry about your friend.  I know you said he was more of an acquaintance, but that's very sad news.  I hope your other friend recovers quickly.

This is really terrible and senseless. I feel so sorry for all the families and friends of the victims.

Chris, I'm sorry you have to report this - can't say otherwise. My condolences to the friends and families of the victims, and another item for the blacklist of what this world is coming to.

Wow.... Sorry to hear about your friends Chris. I can't even imagine what you must be going through right now. I'm so glad that you're OK though.

This is just so utterly depressing. Don't know what to say...

That something like this can happen in a civilised society is truly sickening - Chris, I'd like to add my best wishes to those already expressed; it's one thing to view such tragic events from afar, it's another thing entirely when you find out how close to home this has hit.

Just a reminder, people - can we keep the discussions here strictly on thread please? Discussions re gun control & generalisations re the state of society are subjects for a different thread.

Thanks

Jim

Hey man, Tech is a great school, this stuff really doesn't happen often!  Don't let it dissuade you from applying.

Anyway, here's my new favorite development:  Fred Phelps and the WBC are coming to protest the funerals of the shooting victims!  If you don't know, this is the same group who go around protesting the funerals of american soldiers who were killed in Iraq, because they believe that God hates america because of our society's tolerance of homosexuals.  And now they're coming here.

awesome.
