Never been a massive fan of live albums personally, but 'Made in Japan' is one of the finest out there, along with 'The Song Remains the Same' and the first disc of 'Ummagumma' in my opinion.

But that is probably a whole topic in itself!

I discovered today that the three top-selling live albums of all time are 1. Eric Clapton Unplugged, 2. Garth Brooks Double Live, and 3. Peter Frampton Comes Alive, which really surprised me. Shocked

I always thought that 'unplugged' albums are a phenomenon in themselves, more akin to the concept of 'live in the studio' but with a smallish/select audience, as opposed to playing on stage with a large disparate audience, or maybe I'm missing the point.

I listened to Eric Clapton Unplugged for the first time today, but to be honest, I prefer it when he has his guitar plugged in. Smile

Not sure I could pick 7 by Purple...I own the first 4 on old vinyl because I collect early prog and rock on vinyl.
I play the 1969 ST one  and In Rock now and then for the early proto prog sound/feel but I don't care for their brand of  hard rock on the later ones...an unpopular stance I'm sure.  Stern Smile

Come Taste the Band deserves a little more love, IMO. This Time Around / Owed to G is so good. It's interesting that the album is aging well where the 70's isms were disliked in the 80/90s now are just historic.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Burn is a real nostalgic favorite for me.  Every time I hear it, it takes me back, I feel like a kid ready to cause trouble (but not get caught).  LOL
