ShockedI'm sorry if I missed this, but I just heard on the news there was a FIRST shooting in a dorm 2 hours before there was one in a hall. Nothing was said about it!?
Is this true?

yup, thats what i read also...incredible, but thats not suprising, the same goes for ANYTHING...we are just too comfortable all day, especially a year after this recent event we will generally all forget about it and people will be just as lax, but there really is not much to be done as far as im concerned...

If we undergo another terrorist attack im sure security will get tighter, but how could it get tighter?  Only if its lossened up since 9/11 which im sure it has

Yeah.  The first shooting happened in a dorm at about 7am.  Students weren't notified until 9:30, at which point we were informed that class was still going on.

Class wasn't canceled until 10:15.

go figure.

Now is not the time to discuss it, but eventually we have to do something to stop this...

Shocked as everyone here and even more for the communication failure that could have save lives if some steady action was taken after the 1st shootings. What happened? People were still entering the campus to become targets... what a sad day!

what can we do?  I wish there was a simple solution, but i fear its up to individuals themselves...i have a really awful tastte in my mouth after living in "this" society, I have been planning my leave of all of this ever since I hit senior year HS.  For me, the only solution is to find a better way to live life, and to leave the unnecessary burdens behind you, and find peace as best you can.  It is not necessary that I stay here at College, but I am making a risky choice to do so, I am gambling my life to try and better my future.

I don't think people shold not have the right to live in peace without having to be frightened by every black pipe they spot. Terrorists and shoot-about youngsters aren't really the problem, but what's making them do that. Instead of making the security tighter we should get to roots of everything. It's not guns that kill people, it's not the people that are mad always, it's the teaching, the culture, the environment, and the guns they're given that let them do that. Whenever a terrorist has a reason to strike or a kid to blow his and other peoples brains out instead of jailing the kid, we should look into removing what ever is the reason. Basically look in the mirror, and that goes to the whole world. It still is an open-for-violence world, though it seems violence occurs more on local than global level, at least to where it reaches notifiable value.

I was worried about you dude!!!!!!!!!!!

What makes me sick is that the bodies are still warm and gun control activist have already started using this event as a cheap political point to push their agenda.

My prayers go out to the victims and their families tonight.

Indeed. My dad is a gun person, and he's already gotten two emails from a pro-gun organization with the subject lines "Gun-control claims lives at Virginia Tech" and "Not mad enough about VT? Read this!" Apparently a measure was easily defeated in Virginia that would have allowed students and faculty to carry firearms with a permit; it is now legal for them to do so, but they could be fired and this law would have made that illegal. Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker said that the university was happy this measure had been defeated because they thought that it would make the students feel safer on campus at that time, so one of the emails quotes that statement and then says:
"Well, Mr. Hincker - are you still happy?  Militia, Police, and Public
Safety Committee - still think you did the right thing?"

I'm anti-gun control, but this is f**king disgusting.

BOTH sides of the gun control debate will start using their for their side very soon, it has started as Equality mentioned....

But like Tony R said, let's make another thread for gun control.

Indeed.

My condolences to all. What's most tragic is that it seems the engineering building shootout could have been prevented, but someone royally screwed up...

Why do we always have to blame somebody of something?:

1.- Religion
2.- Guns
3.- Racism

Please this is a deep problem in USA, no other country in the world suffers this kind of events so frequently.

I believe there's a deep problem in some sections of society.

I'm not a pro gun person (Even when I got one when asaulted after passing three psychological tests and a habillity in the weapon) but we can't blame guns, we must blame people.

My  prayers are with the dead and their families.

Iván
