Cool thread.

When I went skiing in Colorado last December I heard Yes' "Roundabout" playing a few times at a dining area in the slopes. I feel like I've heard more unusual selections at various places but I can't remember any right now. Also, I remember I showed a friend of mine "The Return of the Son of Monster Magnet" by the Mothers of Invention and he told me he heard it on a university's radio station or something. Definitely the strangest song I've heard of being played on the radio but I guess a university radio station would have more freedom than a regular radio station.

This was fun!  A commercial on US television (Jimmy Kimmel show) features Jimmy's sidekick, Guillermo, courting a lass with a new Sony bluetooth speaker and a great Peter Gabriel song!  Check it out, hilarious!

"King Crimson" is also an old euphemism for the Devil. It's possible that article might be playing on that independently of the band.

I was flying back to my hometown for the holidays, and was checking out some of the music you can listen to on the plane. Rush's album "Clockwork Angels" was one of the options. I was mildly surprised.

Last prog heard in a weird place was some sort of prog metal in one of our local games dvd exchange shops. Did not stop to ask what it was as they are a weird lot in there. One guy has long pink hair (honest)...and I think he's the normal one. The other I don't know if he's looking at me or the ceiling at the same time. Paid my money then made a dash for the door.Shivers.......

Pink hair you say? Sure the music wasn't either poison or Flock of Seagulls?

Hmmm, another prog reference in a new issue of `Red Lanterns'. I'm beginning to wonder if the writer is a prog fan!

Check out the final word bubble, but read the rest to understand how it comes up:

They once played "Hey You" for a some movie's commercial. Considering the place I live and the music they usually play for such commercials I'd say that was pretty rare.

I saw an early 70's kung fu movie called Hapkido, and in the beginning they very surprisingly played a part of Tarkus by ELP.

And speaking of the King Crimson Tide, I visited the University of Alabama a couple of weeks ago. I was eating breakfast at the Hilton Garden Inn in Tuscaloosa and was surprised to hear "And You and I" playing in the restaurant.

It took me a while to realize what was going on, since hearing that song at home during breakfast would just be part of a normal day to me.

Not exactly a public place but I just got back from the Grand Bahia Principe resort in Runaway Bay, Jamaica and they have an after hours karaoke bar. To my amazement I found YES and Marillion to be with in the list of bands to choose from. The songs were Southside of The Sky, Heart of The Sunrise and Lift Me up for YES.
MaRillion songs were Kayleigh, Lavender and Grendal!!! I just couldn't believe it and know I did not attempt to sing any of these songs cause FISH and ANDERSON are impossible to imitate.
I stuck with a lower register in my voice for that evening and belted out some Johnny Cash instead.

Um, hell yes! I would have totally rocked that sh*t for all it was worth, probably acted out the damn story as well!

Years ago, a friend and I used to do `White Rabbit' by Jefferson Airplane, and by the end of it, most people were like - "What the hell was that?!"
