My bass teacher gave me a December 1996 copy of Guitar magazine. First thing I noticed (after the 7 string slingers of Korn) was "Tubular Balls"--a review of tube amps. LOL

One week later, same show, Jethro Tull was mentioned. I keep catching these references from the other room because my wife has it on while I'm doing something else. I didn't catch the context or what they said about them, but nobody mentions Jethro Tull anymore. I'll have to start watching it just to spot the prog!

Yeah I heard the Jethro Tull comment. Also, Joni Mitchell(who some prog fans like)was talked about a lot. I'm guessing the producers of the show are big music fans.

There is a huge selection of Prog Rock and Fusion (as categories to choose from) on a pub jukebox very local to me. It's odd, as it's not a rock club or even a gig spot, just a very old school pub. My mother was stunned when I told her that I could get Majestic Dance and Sorceress from Return To Forever played in there as long as they weren't showing sports on the telly.

Oh yeah, and there was a bloke on my college course just sitting with a guitar in the studio last week playing Yes' Mood For A Day.

I remember about maybe 12-15 years ago there was a jukebox in a bar I went to that had some songs on it from the first King Crimson album. I believe there was also some tracks from the first two Genesis albums with Phil Collins on vocals. I don't remember what happened to it. I do remember some guy playing "Yours is no disgrace" on that same juke box and also a guy in that bar wearing a YES t shirt. It wasn't the same guy though.

Not sure if this counts, but in a recent issue of a DC Comics `Green Lantern' book called `Red Lanterns', I came across this that made me smile!

To set the scene, the Red Lanterns have hijacked a spaceship to make their new base, and they launch into a discussion on what to name it:

On the AMC show 'Comic Book Man' Bryan Johnson constantly flaunts his love for the Progressive Thrash Metal band ' Charred Walls of the Damned' by wearing the bands T-shirt in numerous episodes.
I love it. Makes me laugh. Great show too!

Went to a play at the Middle School where my daughter teaches art (and directs plays) and the mix cd they played during intermission included a Goblin track, along with the ubiquitous Monster Mash of course. Not sure which one by name though. Not totally unexpected considering it was a Halloween themed play, but still someone knew what they were doing. Was hoping to hear that theme from The Exorcist but no such luck.

Very cool story. The Goblin song, although very appropriate, but still uncommon because in my experience many people I know have never heard of Goblin....poor dolts! Lol.
Anyway, I think the full version of 'Tubular Bells' would have been pushing it a little. Oh one can only wish though. Great way to kill 20min. :)

There's a quite poor TV game show on the Italian state channel which is used to comment the game's suspance with Pink Floyd (Time) and Goblin (Profondo Rosso).
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

I remember when I used to work at McDonald's in the mid 90s their would be a mcdonald's music station that would play things from all sorts of genres.  It was meant to be background music, so prog was almost never heard.  Bvery once in awhile I would hear Pink Floyd's "San Tropez" and ELP's "Lucky Man".  Granted they're not the proggiest choices but it always took me by surprise.

Somewhere recently I heard Uriah Heep's "traveller in time" but I can't remember if it was in a movie I saw or on a tv show. If I figure it out I'll post back here. Wink

If you look really close at this comic, you'll see Amy is holding a record called Son Of Tarkus.

In the movie "the break up" there was a guy singing "Owner of a lonely heart." Does that count? Big smile
