In the end everything comes down to self-discipline and free will, other than tangible events that happen in the realm of uncontrollable nature (i.e.: tornadoes).

Seriously, unless you've been in the shoes of people with Bi Polar, Borderline Personality Disorder, or whatever mood disorder or personality disorder etc, don't just say stuff like "it's self discipline and free will".
I don't want to be so blunt and harsh, but seriously dude, you would have no idea how much you would offend someone with those kind of mental illnesses if you went up to them and just said "you're not self disciplined enough, you don't have enough free will, just snap out of it".

We have professionally trained people because they know their stuff, put simply.
Hell, not everyone understands the DSM-IV-TR and quite frankly, a lot of people can't just deal with some of these alone.
Absolutely do not diagnose yourself unless you are trained in that field.
That is possibly some of the worst advice you can give someone.
