Motley Crue were one of my favorite bands throughout the 1980's.
This is the first true Motley Crue release since the spectacular Dr.
Feelgood in 1989. Kind of like with the recent AC/DC discussions, you
kind of know what you are going to get going in. I suspect very few
PAers would want to have anything to do with this album, and those that
do, would probably be in my age bracket and would have liked and
listened to the Crue back in the 80's.
The above being said, the aforementioned single Saints of Los
Angeles seems to be the best thing on here. They have a song called
White Trash Circus on here, and for some reason that title seems to be
an appropriate way to describe this album. Other than the single, this
is my first listen, but nothing really jumped out at me as songs that I
would enjoy as much as their 80's output. |
Crue was one of my favorite bands in highschool. I have their entire
output spare the new one. Actually, my favorite albums of theirs are
the b*****d ones like Generation Swine (still one of my 10 ten discs of
all time) and the self titled with the singer of Union. I thought that
New Tattoo was a big steaming pile of crap, personally, but when i
heard the new single I thought, "well, it sounds like the melody to Dr.
Feelgood meets the style of Shout At The Devil, so nothing really too
new". My brother (a big fan) loves the album and puts it in his top 3
from the band.

That's a nice album. Been quite awhile since I've given it a spin. Need to do that soon. When it first came out, it spent months in my rotation and I must have listened to that one some 30 times or so.
Gonna pull that out for my next listen. |
Is it my imagination or does he look a bit like Kiefer Sutherland?

^I don't own that one, but I have seen it. I do have the alternate cover version of Time and a Word, which oddly has Steve Howe.

I think my CDs have the alternate cover versions - not sure why the debut needed something new, but Atlantic USA saw the original Time and a Word cover and went "Boobies?! OH NOES!" and demanded a new cover. And yes, then you have the odd band photo with Steve Howe on it who doesn't play on the record. Damn fine records really, these first two.
