June, 2007 29th... Baroque Day!!! "Concerto Grosso, The Seven Season" is in shop!!! And immediately I bought a copy!!!
Boys... I don't know you... but that to say? It believed to have listened to all... above all for how much pertains the
album "group and Orchestra" but... sh*t!!! A new standard is here!!! Franz Di Cioccio decides that "Stati Di Immaginazione"
was an album... Already, like a lot... And appearance that put the hands on an album of Le Orme... Because this is the real
sentence. Baroque Symphonic Prog Metal in the song more Rock and Baroque/ Symphonic Prog in the song with orchestra... Ok,
this is the formula of "Concerto Grosso Per I New rolls"... And Believe me... "Concerto Grosso, The Seven Seasons" is
1.000.000 times better. Not only for record, because "Concerto Grosso Per I New Trolls" from this point of view was a lot
more adventurous, but also for the music. In my opinion "Concerto Grosso, The Seven Season" is a new standard for Italian
Prog... But also for all of the Classic Prog because conveys the Prog Metal in Classic Metal absosporbing he (and done not
come to to say me that the Dream Theater are more brilliant in this sense)). Adventurous album? Well... No!!! This because
the songs are simple, damned immediate and all exciting. Yes, this is another damned 70's album. But, this is the beautiful
news, played so new... Too new... Also if the start ("The Knowledge") is a photocopy of the "Concerto Grosso Per I New
Trolls" this new "Concerto Grosso" is more varied and powerful. Also because the production puts in stand out the power. Also
a piano of "The Season Of Hope" is in possess of a war power that leaves to open mouth. The orchestra will be not it "The
Royal Philarmonic Orchestra" or the "Wiener Philarmoniker" or the "Berliner Philarmoniker" or "Orchestra Sinfonica della
Scala (milan)" but "The White Light Orchestra" and Stefano Cabrera isnt Muti or Mazel... But isn't fundamental because
finally the orchestra and the Rock group are an only entity. The only orchestra part in "Simply Angels" seems copied from
"Concerto For Group And Orchestra" (Deep Purple) but here have... More power. And in general the air that it is breathed in
the songs is that of a big family that cannot betray. And in fact it doesn't betray. Another annotation: The parts vocal
have the same echo that the New Trolls used in the 70's. And too the same harmonies. Ahhh, the orchestra isconducted by
Stefano Cabrera, historycal collaborator of New Trolls, specially in "UT". And not a case the more Rock songs they seem gone
out from "UT" (specially the bonus track "So Che Ci Sei", Italian version of "Dance With The Rain").
Welcome New Trolls. But I didn't think with an album like this. Because the years are passed... It haven't more nothing to
show... But, in fund, other return would not have had sense. My friends... The New Trolls is here!!!

Where I have already heard "Cattedrali di Bambù" and his amazing powerful refrain? Probably in a Revival radio Station... But
in this case if you love the Hammond Organ... This is your album. The songs are consructions around the customizer by Hunka
Munka (Roberto carlotto) Hammond organ. But the lyrics are importants in these songs. However the Hammond (And all the its
possible sounds) dominate the songs!!! But it doesn't result ever above the lines. Rather Ivan Graziani succeeds to write
excellent musicss where the Hammond is the winning element and the lyrics isn't superfluous. "Io Canterò Per Te" is a
typical Power Beat ballad... And yet the organ is so Heavy (in the rhythmic soli) that becomes indispensable together with
the orchestra. Is a strange album because isn't a really Song songwriter Prog album, because the songs are song songwriter
songs... Are 100% Prog songs. Rather the songs have a song songwriter flavour... but with 1.000.000 times power and
technique. So a beat title track "Giovanna G." have a good Kinks flavour but is a very good song for all Progsters.
Therefore, in general is to Hammond album but the Hammond is used to the manner of Bach... To increase the power of soft
songs. Some songs ("Il Canto Dell'Amore", for example) anticipate the style that "Cucciolo" and Carlotto will carry in the
Dik Dik.
Roberto Carlotto in Italy is synonym of vintage keyboards. You listen to this album and will understand because. And I
understood because it is one of the greater rarity of the Italian Prog!!!

If you love Jazz Rock this is another considerable album. Simply... But not for this poor. Napoli Centrale is a really sole
band, because unites Jazz and Neapolitan Folk and it is introduced in a band of products upset to a sick and tired public of
the usual Prog. In this sense this "Mattanza" is a good album, also if inferior to the debut album "Napoli Centrale". In
every case for to understand their music doesn't be necessary to be geniuses. If the Perigeo is the cultured band of the
Italian Jazz, the Napoli Centrale are the band of the common people, what wants to carry the Jazz to level of music really to
populate. James Senese and Franco del Prete composed a really good album where the Jazz culture meets really the neapolitan
culture!!! Also if "Napoli Centrale" is the maximum example of this particular fusion, this "Mattanza" closes good second
(but for me correctly because except for neapolitan). Songs like "Simme Iute E Simme Venute", "Sotto A' Suttana", "Sotto E 'N
Coppa", "Sangue Misto", "Forse Sto Capenno" or "Chi Fa L'Arte E Chi S'Accatta" are all vry good songs but I think that a
little one more of magic would not have ruined. Besides "Chi Fa L'Arte E Chi S'Accatta" is Rock with electric pianto that is
the Jazz element with the woodwinds, does that it allows to indicate the Napoli centralel like first teachers of the
"Neapolitan power".
In general is a very good Jazz album. And another album to rediscover. Also because Napoli Centrale are one of the points of
diamond of the Italian Prog.
CANZONIERE DEL LAZIO "SPIRITO BONO" 1976 Intingo Listen impression by Mandrakeroot
The
first very classic in Prog field by CDL. This is the third album by
CDL. 4 songs, Folk and Prog. The first song "Ballo In Re (Festa)"
(16'41") is a very good suite where the Central Italian Folk leaves
space to a reflective music, like (but different) from that today
produced from the Blackmore's Night (above all because Renaissance
music). In general is Folk but with Rock treatment. More Arabic "Su
Ballu (5'11") also because more Rock. This fact improve this element of
Central Italian Folk, because this fact is typical of the Mediterranean
Folk. In truth isn't Arabic music but a journey in the traditional
Central Italy music. "Morte Di Pulcinella" (7'20") continues this
speech, doing not move itself from how much already listened to. But
the very masterpiece of the album is the long (15'46"9 song "Spirito
Bono (Coccodè)" because is the more Folk song of these album. Is a mix
of Medievel music, Central italy Folk and East Of Eden!!! Violin a la
East Of Eden in a very allegro rhythm and piccolo flute very Medieval
transform this piece in a very good party of seems song.
In
conclusion: A very good album, 100% Prog Folk album, change and solid.
A big surprise for all of the lovers of the Folk Prog. Specially if to
the search for really original groups.

The return of Goblin... That return!!! Yes, the Goblin's elements are all in this O.S.T.. But sure the sound is more modern,
the composition are more neighbors to the Prog Metal or of a strange Horror version of a mix between VDGG and ELP. But sure
this album doesn't disappoint the expectations. The guitars is a la Santana and the keyboards are more mellow that in past
times, in "Endless Love", Horror ballad, the music is more near to New Age. But in general this is a music that it puts much
more anxiety than in past (fault the association of Synth, used often like pianos or with their true sound and electric
guitars). The first song "Non Ho Sonno" is a good mid tempo Symphonic Prog Metal, that not emotion not even to pay but the
rest of the songs... In this sense is still worst!!! And that interesting operation the mini suite in 4 parts "Movie
soundtracks: The Death Farm Animals" where returns the subject of "Non Ho Sonno". Extreme interesting "Ulisse" where
Simonetti and Antonio Marangolo plays an Horror version of Vangelis. Interesting also the anxiety of "Death Farm" with a slow
Black Metal begin and interludes (of electric guitar) Prog develop and solo a la Jens Johanson/ Timo Tolki duel!!!
Good return for an immense band. Because it is true the anxiety is here!!! EMILIO* LOCURCIO

This is one of more obscure release of Italian Prog. And one of the more couriouses.
It is a Rock Opera written by Emilio Locurcio, a good Italian theatre actor, famous
in the 70's. The artists involved in the vocal parts are all today well-known
(Rosalino Cellamare with the name of Ron and Claudio lolli for the 7o's revival). The
music is a mix between Psychedelia, Prog (Non Symphonic Prog), Avant Garde, Jazz and
in some points it isn't connected between the varied parts. nevertheless it is
listenned to all of a breath because the arrengements, the productions and the sound
remedy to the lacks. In general, today, "L'eliogabalo" is a document. The music
started with the intro "Tutto Quello Che Mi è Stato Tolto Lo Rivoglio", certainly not
memorable. But the things improve with "Autoritratto Dentro Stanze Elettroniche",
opening on the politics of the "Brigate Rosse", of the working-class struggle with a
strange music (sweet but hard, warm and electric). The story is very hard and the
protagonist (the Situationist) is compelled to take refuge itself in the love to
forget the badly. But the badly (or the indisposition) seems to triumph. From Hard
Rock but sweet the music becomes hard, extreme and the vocal parts follow. But with
melodic interludes. "A Scaldarci Al Vino Dolce Dei Chilometri" is a bridge for the
urban story of "Giovanna Labbromorto", the story of a woman that knows only to love.
But that it is daughter of its time, of the contradictions of the Italian society of
the 70's. The music is very dramatic. Even if weird sweet. To love Giovanna means to
suffer, to hate and to fight. It follows the second (and the last) part of "A
Scaldarci Al Vino Dolce Dei Chilometri", another bridge for the world of the 70's. In
fact "Dal Finestrino Del Treno" is the story of a mind trip of one "Metropolitan
girl", the fiery voice of Teresa De Sio, that to strokes it seems possessed and a
mind trip of one "student", Rosalino Cellamare (Ron) that it recounts a journey in a
rotten train. The two parts directly aren't connected between them but they represent
the contaddictions of the society, represent also in the industrious mining society
of "La Ferrovia Celeste". Naturally the metaphors would be able to be a lot. But my
reading is honest. In fact A lot of mines come exploited but then exhaust themselves
swiftly. Like the dreams of the people that should resign itself to the to run some
events. And the music is a dramatic but sweet and hard Rock. "La Primavera Feroce" is
a goos Symphonic song with guitar and organ (and Instrumental). It folloes "La Scelta
Di Essere Veramente Liberi" dove the "Situationist" wants to convince us everybody
the struggle will take to the happiness. Everything seasoned by a melting music, with
violin and piano. The "Student" meets the " farmer still pure " (Lucio Dalla) that
he tells the history of "Eliogabalo", a become lunatic emperor, which to the struggle
prefer the art. Everything with a dry music and then very fast and psychedelic and
then from circus with conclusion Be Bop. The insanity is in those! The people is
gone crazy. It how itself can defend if the army was replaced from the paintings of
Picasso, Van Gogh or Emilio Vedova? ("La Gente In Strada"). So it the revolution
arrives. The emperor comes killed!!! and in "La Morte Di Eliogabalo" I review the
fine tragedian of the Blessed Beato Di saint Genies, Patriarch of Aquileia (killed
near my house), also if the two whores are replaced from two priests. Eliogabalo ends
to the hell, in the mines of diamonds. All this mean than we should fight for the
ideal In a struggle that it will not have ever end. Tersa De Sio (the "Metropolitan
Girl") It sings like pits possessed in a hard Rock almost symphonic, dry and
weighing. In one word: the better part of the album, the most reflective with
"Autoritratto Dentro Stanze Elettroniche" and "Giovanna Labbromorto". Surely,
therefore a large warning to pursue the ideal in a struggle without arms but
expressing the proper ideas. And the final is a big party of the people for the
freedom found. And also it have it understood it how to fight (that it is
fundamental) ("Avvertenze- Finalino Per Altri Inizi").
The lyrics have a fundamental importance, like the music. It is necessary to analyze
them together, them in the society of the period. Emilio Locurcio it grew at Turin,
town of the FIAT and of the unions and unionists, where the struggle arms of the
"Brigate Rosse" was able to hit and to kill whoever, also only if it suspected to be
oppose them. Emilio Locurcio this represents in "L'Eliogabalo". Without fear. And in
this sense is a very hard Opera Rock. That it does not emit sentences. But that it
should make reflect.

The first listen og "Biglietto Per L'inferno" goes back to 1998 means a MC copy. The
girl that it had lent me the MC had ensured me that this album would be pleased me
really. Still today I haven't words to thank it. Thanks, Elies. But now... You will
want a review And these not memories that to you, just, don't interest. And here the
review: Extremely power Symphonic Prog with hard and complex lyrics (for 1974, 1989,
2007...). Religion... Religious politics, wanting to to be demanded and for to be
demanded theology. This is the argument of this album. The tragedy of "L'Amico
Suicida" , "Il Nevare", "Confessione" or "Una Strana Regina" have a power... that it
puts anxiety. And this is the real atmosphere of this album: powerful anxiety!!!
"Baffo" Banfi is an another virtuoso of keyboards (and today one of the more
appreciate session man from Italy) and Claudio Canali has in possess of one
contagious power that only Francesco Di Giacomo possess (this said who it had seen in
action both bands!!!). The power of the rhytm section is very irresistible because he
plays a sort of Symphonic Rock rhytm and the guitar is very heavy. This is a very
perverse way to treat the religion but this personal treatment allowed to "Biglietto
Per L'Inferno" of to be already immortal in the 1974.
Highly recommended. Not only for Progsters but for all Classic Music lover. Because
this is!!!

My Rating:9,5/10 PA Rating: 5/5
Here to you the original concept! In fact the United Artist distorted the concept of
the album doing a new mix and inverting the order of the sides of the LP only to have
a Hard Rock beginning!!! Instead today we have the original version thanks to the
AMS/ BTF. It is necessary to say that the result is a simple album of Symphonic
Classic Music composed from Enrico Rosa and is only Rock for the instruments used.
The original concept was based on the nonsense of the war. Using the a lot of
instruments available a clear moment of peace and harmony was recreated even if in
the medieval age (you see name of the band and the cover) and for this the music is
very sweet. Nevertheless the electric guitar of Enrico Rosa represents the agression
of troops in gear. And all to show the nonsense of the war. And I should say that the
parts more Hard Rock give back well the idea of the agression like the sweet parts
give back well the idea of the peace and harmony. Thanks to the AMS/BTF we can admire the work how thought about the origin (but if
gone out by name Osh Gosh Bigosh [fortune that changed name...] would have done the
same effect?). And the 5 stars are actual for this version. Otherwise it alone 4
would have deserved of it!!!

Genua
December 23rd 1962. This is the date of the first concert of this
mythical group: I Sagittari... Well... I Delirium. In 1966 with the
entry of Di Martino this band included already 2 future I Delirium
(Reale E Di Santo entry in 1968). In 1967 with the help of Giampiero
Reverberi and Natalino Otto the debut. In this cronological CD the
songs from "giorni Difficili" to "La Vita Va" is good Beat near the
Brit POP. "D'Amore Non Si Può Morire" with its flute can be considered
Proto Prog. Brit POP a la Herman's Hermits or "Manfred Mann" is present
also in "L'Abbaglio" with a traverse flute that remember the Jethro
Tull (thing does that it will be abused from I Delirium). Totally
Prog... Ehm... Proto Prog "Serenata Del Batterista", Brit POP with
Waltz interlude and micro drums soli and "Se Vi Dicessi" with hHammond
and Prog voice (of Mimmo Di Martino). After a single recorded
exclusively for the "Pesaro Festival" ("Vacanze A pesaro" [a Dixieland]
and the strange "Sulla Spiaggia Di Pesaro") quite Prog arrived!!! With
the single "Buongiorno Amore/ Io Ne Morirei" well we can talk about
Prog. This because all of the Prog ingredients are present. In general
all the songs of I Sagittari are more boogie and poerful respect to the
songs of I Delirium. The story of I Sagittari it has limit in 1970 when
enters in formation Ivano Fossati that it has different ideas with
respect to the last original member, Riccardo anselmi that it leaves
the band. It is the birth of I Delirium.
CD extremely mattering
and impossible to appraise. Extremely mattering for the Italian music,
recovered from that genius and big colletionist that is Italo Gnocchi.
Thanks, Italo!!!

Extreme
obscure band and release. But this "Dietro La Finestra" is one of the
best reborn of RPI albums. It is true, in this album I listen echoes of
Yes, Rick Wakeman solo career (Marino Baccini is a very Wakeman adept),
Genesis, Quella Vecchia Locanda, Maxophone, Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso,
Locanda Delle Fate. also the guitars a la Steve Howe are extreme good
(is the instrument of the band) and good also the bass line (see "Un
Minuto Solo", in particular) and technical also the drum partiture (but
the sound is atrocious). In general the songs are mid tempos that
emphatizes the romantic flavour of the songs but with intermezzi A la
Rick Wakeman that they enliven everything. So this is one of the more
ISP/ RPI albums of the 90's but also one of the more normal of the
90's. The recover of the Italian progressive tradition cannot pass,
however, in second plan. Courious that, in the same time, this band
have a high personality. In 1992 it will debut a similar band, Il
Castello Di Atlante. And the RPI finally reborn.
Good LP. One of
the albums of the reborn of the ISP/ RPI. Recommended for all who that
they research the darker things. Even if, then, it goes well for all. Oniric - Suggestioni (demo)

This is a new sensational band from Benevento, South Italy. Onirik is a duo formed by
Carlo De Filippo:
keyboards, synths and Gian Vigo: vocals,
guitars, drums, bass, lyrics and the Oniric bio so recited: Oniric
was born in 2005, it is a duo merging Carlo De Filippo's sad chords and
dark sounds with melodies and sonorous elucubrations from Gian Vigo. A
dark - pop sonority interlacement, crossing obscure chords and some
electronic influences, creating ethereal atmospheres, meditating and
dreaming. In truth the music is very dark, but only because with this
instruments the sound is Dark. At any case I wouldn't talk about
Electronic Prog because rather I see in the Oniric a tightly recover
some tradition of Italian Prog, filtered in modern optician. The
manifesto song is sure "Destroy Paranoia", a simply POP oriented Dark
song, with a good atmospheses. The second manifesto song is "Euphonia
Revolver", more complex and decadent with a good keyboards and guitars.
more Symphonic is the opener "The Rest Will Flow" with a simply rhytmic
by electric guitar and good carpet of synth, sweet and dreaming.
Dreaming is also "Dangling Cloud" also, to the end, is a normal song
with rhythmic guitar and synth carpet. At any rate the largest lack are
the vocal parts... Monotonous and a la Ayreon.
Now we wait for a complete CD because the introductions for quite to appear there are all.

My review is produced using this release: Virgin Dischi SRL VDIK 7124 (MC)
My Rating:7/10 PA Rating:4/10
This first solo album by Franco Mussida "Racconti Della Tenda Rossa" is an album in
the vein of acoustc guitar Prog... And one of the album that I prefer in my
discography. Sure Franco Musida is one of the best guitarplayer of all time and in
this album Mussida creates of the attractive bridges with the fantasy and the
pleasure of to play a sole instrument. The use of the acoustic guitar returns to
Steve Howe's "Spectrum" but with an arabic use of the voices. The songs can seem POP
but goes said that there it is a search towards a musical shape that will be taken
again in the albums "Ulisse" and also in the last "Stati Di Immaginazione" of the
PFM, at least for it search for simple atmospheres, easy to listen to and above all
built to dream. In this sense "La Cava Di Sabbia" is a song that in "Stati Di
Immaginazione" It wouldn't have been superfluous. Franco Mussida gives long all of
the album excellent scores of guitar that to concept level isn't distant from
Riccardo Zappa, also if in this case the songs are more POP. In this last sense the
strange Jazzy "Dance Classique" is another example because Mussida tribute also the
style of Al Di Meola!!! In "Racconti Della Tenda Rossa" You will not find the classic
one 70' s Italian Prog, but a POP Prog and also more innermost. Also because Franco
Mussida had way to put fruit Personal experiences very deep, that the to play in
prisons or community of recover. And this listens to well in "La Discesa Di Michele",
song little Prog but struggent and extreme coinvolgent. Also the short "Porti
Lontani" is good in this direction because returns to one of the much villages of
fishermen of the South Italy where every day a fisherman leaves and doesn't know if
will return. And with the successive one "Zanoobia" creates a really sole pathos. In
a certain sense "Racconti Della Tenda Rossa" it is approached also to the last works
of Le Orme, also because it is obvious a search for the feeling with respect to the
power and to the virtuosism. To the end, the last best song of hese album is "Tenda
Rossa", another emotional slow song.
In the road that it will carry the PFM to produce "Ulisse" and the last masterpiece
"Stati Di Immaginazione" this "Racconti Della Tenda Rossa" is the start.
Unfortunately the three albums isn't consecutive albums... And the first one is a
Franco Mussida's solo album. But for me "Racconti della Tenda Rossa", "Ulisse" and
"Stati Di Immaginazione" go listened to like part of a trilogy. For this fact Franco
Mussida is in PA. And for this fact I recommended this "Racconti Della Tenda Rossa".

This is a real PFM masterpiece, not less the early band efforts like
"Storia di un minuto".
The new singer Bernardo Lanzetti exalts the strong English lyrics,
extremely critics about American system, and is a value added to the
great qualities of the Italian band.
Mauro Pagani violin and flute, Mussida guitars and the excellent
rytmhical section (Djivas and Di Cioccio) make a great work on every
song, but especially on the opener "From under", and the power
title-track.
On "Harlequin" you can appreciate a progressive growing, full of
finenesse and instrumental breaks, while Bernardo Lanzetti ductile
voice stands out again.
I think PFM caught here its artistic peak, before a slow decline, and I
recommend it to all Italian Prog fans.

debut with bang for Napoli Centrale, one of the more important 70's bands from Italy and one of the first example of
Neapolitan Power Jazz Rock. In this case is a sort of Neapolitan Folk Jazz. This album is still incredibly fresh and present,
like just produced. I could close here with the review. Nevertheless it is interesting to continue. The sax and the voice of
James Senese are the real distinctive instruments like the electric piano of Mark Harris. Another distinctive Nali Centrale
trademark is the use of Neapolitan dialect and Neapolitan mentality for to create a sole Jazz, without time and impossible to
describe without a listening. I listen to that, incredible, it should be distracted. Because only so it is understood the
music of this disc. "Campagna" was a big success. And this plays me incredible. But all "Napoli Centrale" is an extreme
incredible disc.
If you love the Experimentations in Jazz field... It does waited for to listen to "Napoli Centrale"?

I like very much Chocolate Kings. A wonderful record. Not a masterpiece, in my opinion.
Vocals of Lanzetti are an interesting mix between Peter Gabriel and Dave Cousin of Strawbs...

also for me "Choccolate Kings isn't a masterpiece. But Bernardo Lanzetti is extreme good voice. In truth I prefer Lanzetti with Acqua Fragile.

Thanks for info, my friends. For all who loves the true RPI (those of golden age) from BTF are in shop these Limited Edition Korean LP of these albums: Il Balletto di Bronzo YsDeluxe and ultra limited Korean LP reissue in coloured vinyl (yellow) and original gimmick artwork. For many people this is the best Italian prog album of all times, do we need to say more? Masterpiece, rather impossible to find on LP. Latte e miele Passio Secundum MattheumDeluxe and ultra limited Korean LP reissue in coloured vinyl (yellow) and original artwork. A keyboards trio in the same style as ELP or Le Orme in Italy, this is their first album, with Bach-inspired music and lyrics on the Gospel. An ambitious work, and today a minor Italian classic. Mauro Pelosi La stagione per morireDeluxe and ultra limited Korean LP reissue in coloured vinyl (blue) and original artwork. Singer-songwriter from Rome, Mauro Pelosi released four albums among which the first two are particularly desired by prog collectors, but do not expect symphonic mayhem, but some rather gloomy and sad songs, often with dismal lyrics. Gianni Leone and Stinga from Il Balletto di Bronzo played in this album, which is rather impossible to find on CD. every title costs €18,00 (or 23,40 US Dollars) More info at: www.btf.it

Great voice indeed.... I don't think the album is not on par with the first three ... but a nice album.

CELESTE — Principe di un GiornoReview by memowakeman (Guillermo Hdez. Urdapilleta) Special Collaborator Discogs Editor & Italian Prog Specialist
Beautiful and melodic!
It is always a pleasure to review this kind of albums that make me have a great time while listening to it, there are some albums that i could describe with one word, being sometimes "marvelous", "awesome", "fantastic" etc, this time i have thought about one word which really suits to describe this album, and it is "beautiful".
Never tired of Italian music, probably a couple of years ago, or more, i discover "Principe di un Giorno" but only the song, not the complete album, and loved it since the very first listen, it caught my attention and filled my ears with pure beauty, this is what led me to get interested on the album itself, and then, actually not that soon as i wanted, i got the album and was delighted with the music here, which seems to be probably one the softest and mellowest albums that RPI has offered to us, i am sure that anyone could like or enjoy this album due to its pastoral and traditional sound.
Another thing that i would like to remark, is that this album was released in the second half of the 70´s, i mean before it was released, several Italian monsters had previously have success with their different masterpieces, PFM; Le Orme and BMS being the obvious bands, but also a lot of other bands had disbanded for a period or even dissappeared, so Celeste appeared in a time when some people might have thought about the decrease of Italian prog rock, and prog rock in general.
So this album features 7 songs and a 37-minute lenght, and kicks off with the title track "Principe di un Giorno" which believe me its a beautiful song, very warm and delicate music, full of mellotron, flute and nice acoustic guitars, it makes you feel better when you listen to it, simply beautiful. "Favole Antiche" is one out of two mini epics of this album, over 8 minutes of again a very warm and soft sound, nice vocals accompanied with the beautiful sound of flute, again the mellotron plays an important role on the song but also we can hear the xylophone, great song. "Eftus", when i first see the name i though it was Fetus mispelled, well anyway, this song continues ith the soft and warm sound of the previous ones, a pastoral and short song, made to fill our ears with joy and tranquility. "Giocchi Nella Notte" follows the same way as the previous ones, but this time what makes this song different is the later sound of sax and a louder moment, i mean not as soft as other songs this is the second longest song of the album. "La Grande Isola" is one of my favorite songs here, i love the mellotron and the delicated bass playing, it has some magnific passages, mellotron - flute - acoustic guitar predominates here as in the album in general and this song has an stronger end. "La Danza del Fato" is a short piece with sound of bells but in general it has the same structure as the other ones. "L´Imbroglio" is the shortest and last song of this beautiful album, just a minute of pastoral music to finish this album, very nice.
Well as you can notice this album has no weak moments (at least for me), i like all the songs here, i feel very please everytime i listen to this gem, but i feel somewhat unconvinced about my final grade,i feel, as an RPI lover that i should give it 5 stars without hesitation, but something inside me says that 4 is the correct grade, because despite loving all the music here,i think i prefer another kind of RPI, hope you understand what i mean.
However, this album is essential to any prog lover, but not a masterpiece, anyway please check it you will be really pleased with this beauty!

I feel the same as Guillermo about this album, it's very good but not as exciting as some other italian prog. I especially love to listen to this one just before sleeping. I got The great labirinto and In concerto from La Maschera di cera recently. Great albums, that track "La Maschera di cera " which comes from their first album is unbelievable .

Another excellent review by Finnforest!
Italian Symphonic Prog (Studio Album, 1972) Avg: 4.23/5 from 43 ratings
QUELLA VECCHIA LOCANDA — Quella Vecchia Locanda Review by Finnforest (James)
A good prelude for what would follow...
From the first sound of Donald Lax’s marvelous violin which opens “Prologo” you know that the QVL sound is unique. They are one of the most distinct and important bands from the classic Italian scene. Mixing rock with a classical or jazzy sound and incorporating flute, violin, guitar, and keys with a tightly wound “Fragile” style rhythm sound. Add to that very good Italian vocals and lots of mood changes and you have the right ingredients for a great debut. Some think there is a Tull comparison here but it is only fleeting to me-QVL sounds like no one else. These songs have the punchy quality that PFM sometimes has and maintains the sound quality level.
Lax now lives in Hawaii and is still performing. While recalling his time in QVL very fondly, in a 2004 interview he sadly reports that the band never made a cent from the albums, were treated poorly, and were not even informed of the reissues. He says he had to go on the Internet and pay for his own music just to get a copy!
“Un Villaggio, Un Illusione” does sound a bit Tullish when the flute kicks in albeit with mad violin the comparison is only partially worthwhile. It is Lax’s marvelous playing that steals the show here, without it this track is basically a grooving rocker.
“Realta” begins softly with acoustic guitar before the warm vocals usher in a nice melody. This track sounds very PFM with piano, flute and percussion all very good. This has to be one of the most perfect examples of the beautiful Italian sound.
“Immagini Sfocate” sounds quite experimental at first but devolves into a guitar rocker with some great drumming at the end and a nice guitar solo. The lead guitars on this album have a unique sounding distortion to them, quite dry.
“Il Cieco” and “Dialogo” both have some nice moments but with less of the magic of the other tracks. “Verso la Locanda” is better than the previous two but again I sense some lack of direction in the overall song.
“Sogno, Risveglio” may be the highlight of the album and I think it hints at the potential that this band would realize on their masterpiece two years later. Gorgeous pastoral moments mingle with occasionally edgy violins and an unsettled piano that keeps trying to rock the boat. But they come together at the end for a lovely closing.
Both QVL albums are a must for anyone interested in putting together even a modest Italian collection. This debut is more accessible at first and more instantly likable but their follow-up is the real thing, even if it takes longer to appreciate.
The Japanese mini-lp sleeve is another gatefold that shows off the beautiful cover art that I never get bored with. The remastered sound is excellent for the time period. 3 ½ stars.

QUELLA VECCHIA LOCANDA — Il Tempo Della Gioia Review by Finnforest (James)
The epitome of the Italian genre?
There is so much great Italian prog that I’m always raving about it only to be asked by others where to start. Then it becomes very hard to think of one album that captures all of the many wonderful and unique aspects of the classic Italian album. This would have to be one of the top candidates to suggest to someone as an essential Italian album and one that covers most of the traits that make them special: creative songwriting fusing the rock, classical, and jazz genres; immaculate production with great attention to recording details; exceptional use of violins, flutes, and other classical elements; warm and passionate Italian vocals; and perhaps most importantly an unabashed willingness to project a most romantic style of music. Some will say that the Italian stuff can’t compare to the best English or German music but I disagree. True, the big groups from those other countries achieved far great commercial success but does that necessarily mean they are better? Or perhaps just different, with the luxury of more access and distribution that has allowed them to be more ingrained in our minds as the standard bearers of quality prog? The sheer beauty of “Il Tempo Della Gioia” would suggest it has a place amongst the greatest prog titles from anywhere in my humble opinion.
The album opens with a sweeping and gorgeous piano melody in “Villa Doria Pamphili” joined by acoustic guitar and violin. Achingly beautiful. The vocals begin and are very good by any standards. At 2:30 there is a unexpected crescendo. Then after another verse the song ends with such a wistful, haunting piano. What an opener!
“A Forma Di” begins softly with building violin and then flute and piano, the violins being tense and nervous while the other instruments are contrasted by a sense of calm. Around halfway we get some wordless vocals in a choir form. Then what I believe is a harpsichord adds an elegant feel before the song fades out.
The title track is next with vocals right away proceeding into somewhat jazzy waters. We get some trippy keyboards and operatic sounding vocals. Bass and percussion provide a solid backdrop here and we get a small taste of some nice guitar. The last part of the song begins to sound like an Italian version of Relayer’s “Sound Chaser.” But make no mistake, this band was not trying to mimic Yes or Genesis or Floyd, they made their own sound with this release.
“Un Giorno Un Amico” features some fiery violin playing in the first half of this near 10 minute prog gem. If you’re waiting for things to get conventional, they won’t. This track is just about exploration and emotion. After some vocals the second half opens up more space for some nice solos from several instruments. Again the combination of jazz/rock and classical elements is seamless. The sound quality is pretty decent for ’74.
“E Accaduto una Notte” begins with choral voices, flutes, and acoustics before the lead vocal begins, accompanied by piano and distinct bass. The mood gets decidedly dark as the strings and piano take on a sinister tone. The album ends with a trippy build-up to an explosion of some type. So much for the happy ending! It is true as some have noted that QVL was “ending challenged.” Many of their songs just stop abruptly or in some unimaginative way but for me it just can’t negate all the things they do right.
The Japanese mini lp-sleeve features incredible sound and a perfect reproduction of one of the most amazing gatefolds I’ve ever seen. A deliciously abstract painting graces the outside while the inside art would suggest maybe a romantic road trip spent writing music among other things? How should I know, just a guess! Whatever the point of the art, it works magically with the music to convey the feeling that these were men reveling in a most creative and heady time in their lives.
An essential title for a collection desiring any exposure to the Italian scene, the masterpiece of QVL. Also recommended to fans of classical music. Their debut may be more rocking and accessible, but this one is where the real magic is! 4 ½ stars rounding up on this one.

Le Orme Live....
Italian Symphonic Prog (Live, 1974) Avg: 4.17/5 from 11 ratings
ORME, LE — In Concerto Review by Mandrakeroot (Andrea Salvador) Collaborator Italian Prog Specialist
My review is produced using this release: Philips/ Phonogram 846 412-2
Rating: 8,5/10
The first live album of Italian POP (Prog) isn't the best Italian Prog live. But my vote is high first because is a great album and second because is the first Italian POP (Prog) album. It is sure, in this album (originally concept double, finally in one LP) Le Orme plays good music. Is recorded at Brancaccio Teatre in Rome between 16th and 17th January of 1974 during the "Felona E Sorona" tour (but of this album this live including only "Ritorno Al Nulla"). The sound mix (it is necessary to say it) is poor: the bass drum is too high, the bass is too mixed high and the keyboards... In total they seem three separated records and then superimposed!!! Well... The start is good because presents the two parts of the inedit "Truck Of Fire", 20 mins of previous recorded but still today inedit single. The first part is instrumental and is a long virtuosisms with, in evidence, the drums of Giuseppe "Michi" Dei Rossi (and its continuous soli, that of varied drums... really torrid) and the organ of Toni Pagliuca. The second part is sung in English and present a good test of Aldo Tagliapietra's voice. Nevertheless it remains a mystery the reason still today the studio version of "Truck Of Fire" is unpublished. "Sguardo Verso Il Cielo" is an evergreen alredy in 1974. This version is more swifter of the studio version. Is little magic but more aggressive. What version is better? This don't know to establish it. But sure tghis version is very torrid. "Preludio A Era Inverno" is a composition that had the task of introducing "Era Inverno". Also "Era Inverno" is more swifter that the studio version. And in this case is better that the studio version. "Ritorno Al Nulla" provokes strange sensations in my mind. The first and the more mattering is this: "A psychedelic composition; is better with all the suite "Felona E Sorona". But, in general "Ritorno Al Nulla" please me. "Collage (Sigla)" is the studio recorded version extract used for to introdice "Collage". Another more swifted version (respect to studio version). Also this version is better that the studio version. But in general the recorded and mixing too penalizes this live.
Today outdated for recorded and mixing is a very important album for RPI because is the first Italian POP (Prog) live. And, strange, is also extreme good. And for these reasons is an album to possess!!!
