Nah, not ours. We have concerts and stuff pretty often (and a free recording studio for the customers), for example this guy played there last week: http://www.jazzmusicarchives.com/eero-koivistoinen.aspx Every day the last 15 minutes before closing we put something on, from jazz to death metal to classical to pop. Of course last night when the VDGG was playing, some really stoned guy who had been sleeping under his umbrella for some hours woke up and came to compliment us for the choice.

Yes I work there and yes, that's definitely the logic behind some of the choices ![]() ![]() As far as public libraries go, we're pretty much on the cutting edge, and our boss travels the world constantly telling about our concepts. Last week he was in Taiwan. Even I, a perfectly regular employee, have been to Russia and Denmark this year talking about us.

I played Area's Vodka Cola on a big boom blaster here the other day while closing down the after school. Still had some kids around me, and they generally seemed fine with it. Sure, it helped that I acted all mad and danced some pseudo rumba with a broomstick, but they didn't turn it off.
Some of the parents turning up to gather their child looked like they'd just entered the twilight zone

It's hard too. It's just so layered and offers up some incredible diversity. I would say its a lot like classical music in the sense where both types of music are 'thinking man's music.' when I listen to Schultze it's like my mind is Playing Chess with itself. Sounds weird. Yes. But the complex lengthy pieces that are usually found in electronic prog really make your mind go off on a few tangents. Complexity and enjoyment are definitely found here for me ;) |

Nice way to put it dude ![]() Prog electronic can very easily become sonic wallpaper, but then it probably isn't as good as it could be... I will say this though, it isn't recommendable to approach the genre like one would a rock album or a folk album for that matter. It's about the sea and its soundtrack - all of these colourful layers of sound that have next to nothing in common with the explosions of the rock template.

I agree that it's not recommended to approach the electronic prog genre casually. You really have to be in the right head space to enjoy it and let it fade nicely into the background for your self. It's not something that is lyrically driven or typical sounding. For me personally, I can listen to it doing just about anything except going to the gym of course. Lol that would not work! Na anyway, electronic prog is the kind of music where you can peel back layers of your conscience and really be one with the music and not really have to think about it at all. That's why it's easily the best background music for me and I am so surprised it isn't used more often by where we go to do our menial tasks in life like going to the dentist, shopping for food, going to the bank and of course getting a haircut. Playing KLAUS SHULTZE's A Study For Brian Eno in tbe backround may make these things more enjoyable for me in life. |

I watched the movie "Safe House" over the weekend. During the closing credits they played Kanye West tune. Remember, he had already sampled King Crimson a couple of years back. This track was based around a sample of Phil Manzanera's guitar, I believe from the song "K-Scope". A bit of the song is also looped in a Dodge Dart advertisement.

I was making a bit of zapping on the TV remote and I've seen few seconds of a sit-com. I don't watch sitcoms so I have no idea of what it was, but one of the actors was singing "Owner of a Lonely Heart" to his I think girlfriend, probably to tell her "Move Yourself". As soon as he finishes I restarted zapping.

Unexpectedly heard prog on my tv screen while I watched the Sopranos. Main character TONY. S enjoys the likes of PINK FLOYD, JETHRO TULL, RUSH and prog related BOSTON.
I just found it very funny and strange that a neanderthal like Tony Soprano listens to music like that. Also, he plays METALLICA at his strip joint establishment. ![]() |
